For the four saturdays in January, freight trains are being diverted past our house due to engineering work on the main line between Grantham and Newark.

Here is an intermodal headed by three class 66 locomotives. Usually one per train, but the other two were positioning moves.

The first two locos were GBRf Metronet branded, and the third a Freightliner.

Great shots Alan:thumbs_up:. Its awesome that the tracks are right outside your window!!:eek:mg: What traffic usually polishes the rails there? Was the freight traffic just for those few days?

Usually just single unit passenger trains, about one per hour each way.

    Yes, just about!

These were originally two-car units. They were split and an extra cab fitted on the inner end. They are widely used on secondary services and do quite a good job. Top speed 75mph, I think.

Yesterday a tree was blown over the tracks a few hundred yards from my house, blocking the line for over an hour. With widespread gales around the country this scene was repeated, causing great disruption on several lines.

Same storm? I heard that the rail lines in Germany were shut down for the first time ever because of a storm.

Yes, could be, the storm was fairly widespread.

Diversions again yesterday. This one had four class 66's at the head of a container train.
