I know the DSNG is a mere shadow of its former Rio Grande self, but I was paging through the new National Geographic and low and behold there was a picture of a DSNG box car on a snowy winter day releasing Big Horn sheep into the wild! Bet that is a first in Rio Grande history!

This is a lousy picture, due to many things such as haze, etc. I tried to enhance it a little but it's the subject matter that matters. Shot on Tehachapi loop in spring 96. I never pay attention to diesel stuff, but noted there are two Rio Grande units on the head end of this drag. [IMG]

The one in the lead is a SD50. #2 is more than likely also one. Can't really make out the fans on top. Hey Fitz, any black and gold picture is good :D .

As for the sheep, I think this happened last winter. I remember reading about it.

They both are SD50s... i didn't realize ditch lights have been around already for 5 years. Remember the confusion on what they had to be on for? DOnt think anyone cares now ;)

Man thats a hazy shot though [IMG] You almost can't tell that the second SD50 is an SD50 if it wasn't for the angled blower and the two grills up front!

I took the photo and ran it through me photo editor. I can see the fans now. Before it was a black blob :D .

Jim, does that mean there is more detail (hidden) in those scans than shows up on the screen? I'm not real happy with the results from my scanner. The photos are much better. :(

    Fitz,

I just brightened it way up to see if I could see the roof of the second unit. That made the rest of the photo REAL bad. It has been my experence with scanners and photos that are not perfect, the results are not that good unless you have a high-end scanner, read big bucks.

While i can't tell you exactly what you are doing cus i dont know what scanner you have or what settings you are viewing it at, i can say the higher resolution you can scan at the better. My monitor is on 1024x768 right now and i can see the whole pic on the screen, you can identify the models but not without being careful. If your monitor is calibrated wrong the colors wont show up either.
