And I thought it might just be my favoritism that made me point that out! I did wonder about the dynamic brake blister, since most Paducah Geeps are non-dynamic.

Well, we’ve solved the caboose mystery and where Richard saw the EIRR engines, now for the BN-SD9. I’m hoping to catch that this weekend if the weathers ok. If not we’ll be back that way for the swap meet in Feb.

We got lucky and caught all 3 of the EIRR engines just north of Neoga Sunday, #4541 & 7565.

    and #1040

We also found several of these North Western covered hoppers.

On a side note, there’s a nice little park in Neoga, where you can watch the traffic on the IC/CN tracks and a Casey’s not far away.

Shaun – Richard, we found that BN engine you two were talking about, it’s on the old IC that went from Mattoon to Newton, bout 1 ½ m south of 16. Looked like we can get to it off the Lerna rd. No photos of it this trip, but we’re planning on going up that way in Feb for the train show, so the mystery continue’s. Me nor the wife remembered the elevator being there, but it’s been close to 30 years since we went to collage at Lakeland.

Interesting switch stand. It's apparently seen a bit of rough service.

    WHOO-HOO finally!!!!
Inch, I thought that was the old IC line but wasn't sure. Used to sit at the fairgrounds in Greenup and watch them slowly roll by the edge of the grounds. That part of the line has been gone for probably 25+ years now tho. Used to be a crossing about 2 miles From my grandparents farm that still had the Wig-Wag crossing signal intact for many years after the line was abandoned, but could never figure out to get it down :tb-mad:

    Boxcab,
Most the signals n such along that line are left from the days of NKP and are well used. I got a few photos from Metcalf, which is where the EIRR [NKP] and CSX [B&O] interchange is.

It’s an interesting line of history past, still in use today. A guy I know called it “a redneck line, held together with baling wire n duct tape”.

    Shaun,
I to remember the IC going by the fair grounds in Greenup; use to go over for the horse races n chasin girls [I had better luck with the racin part]. The IC line through there was taken out in the mid 80's as I remember.
You might remember a good friend of mine [Jerry Cox] born n raised from over there, use to DJ country music at the WKZI radio station in Casey.
A bit of an update from there, the old IC depot has been restored and is now sitting uptown as a museum in all it’s glory, and the Toledo depot has been persevered by the Kiwanis there and use for their meeting n such.

So the EIRC track was once NKP St. Louis main line? How busy is the CSXT line?

Yep, have been in both of those stations over the years. The Greenup station is owned and was restored by The Cumberland Co. Historical Society, IIRC.
And the Toledo Station also used to on occasion host the Co. Farm Bureau meetings in which one of my Grandfathers was an active member for over 50yrs. And oh yeah, I remember WKZI, was all that was ever on at my grandparents houses(both sets)
They also at one time broadcast the racing programs from the Cumberland Co. Fair all week.
We also used to haul alot of grain to the elevator that sat on the IC line just of off the fairgrounds to the SE (was the only one we could get to without getting on the Highway to transport)
Do you remember how long the Greenup Depot sat out in the park (Haughton?, I think) in town before being moved uptown? :confused2:

    Boxcab,
I have no idea how much traffic there is on that line for sure. It’s bout an hour north of us and I don’t get up there much. We have seen some grain trains in Chrisman IL, which is on that line.

    Shaun,
The elevator is still there and in use, the IC roadbed is used by 4 wheelers now to get under the old PRR.
Don’t know how long the Greenup station set in the park, but I think it was a couple years away while they raised the money to get the ground and finish the foundation.

Just a quick update on the Ex-BN SD-9 just outside of Mattoon. The wonderful Cascade Green is GONE!!!! It is now a dark blue with no markings or Rd #'s. Made the St. Louis trip this weekend and it was sitting in it's usual spot and the green was gone:tb-shocked:

    Shaun,
I hate to hear about the paint job. Wish I’d made there before hand, but it didn’t work out for me to get any photos
