Has anyone had any experience with EasyDCC, if so what kinds of pluses and minuses have you seen? How easy was installation; programming; troubleshooting? etc. Thanks
Chris , I did a lot of research on buying a DCC system last november. After a lot of discussion on various Model railroad sites I narrowed my choice down to digitrax or easy DCC. Finally I contacted both companys via e-mail and then by phone. After talking with Al and Keith from cvp(easy DCC) my choice had been made for me! They were the freindliest and most helpful people I had ever dealt with for model railroading. They told me how easy it was to program decoders using easy DCC and this was backed up by model rr's that own the digitrax system! Easy DCC is also now shipping with the 4 digit addressing and previous sytems are upgradeable with an e-prom chip replacement which is easily accomplished by the user. I purchased the basic easy dcc system in december and as promised I received my 4 digit address upgrade e-prom and manual in march! The bottom line is whichever system you choose is by far an improvement over traditional transformer control. All the references from other companys were also good and I am sure there systems work well. But for my money I chose Easy DCC and I am extremely happy with my choice!!
I just bought the NCE system, and afterwards started hearing everybody raving about easyDCC. It seem everybody who bought easyDCC is very happy. In the newsgroups recently DCC was summed up something like this: easyDCC: best overall system, easy to program. Lenz: break too easy, somewhat limited features. Digitrax: plent of features, hard to program Wangrow: nice but spendy. NCE: no complaints whatsoever. MRC: rather drink cyanide lemonade. I bought my system from a local shop after playing with Lenz, Digitrax, Wangrow, and NCE. I just wish they had an easyDCC to try out. ------------------ Robert Ray The NP & UP N-Scale Railroad
i have been thinking about DCC for a while, looks like its going to be EASYDCC then.. ------------------ wheres all the C636's???? stickymonk.com Matts Photo gallery
I want to thank everyone for replying. Up until March the only way we could get EasyDCC was through cvp inc. I found out that Tony's Train Exchange <ttx.com> is now a dealer. Looks like he's getting a call from me. Thanks again ------------------ When in doubt, empty your magazine. [This message has been edited by ChrisDante (edited 02 April 2000).]
Glad I could help ! I think besides DCC ,Model railroad forums like this one have been the best thing to come along for us in the last ten years.
Does anyone know where Easy DCC can be purchased in England? Or somewhere in the USA that will deal with International orders? Thanks ------------------ Alan www.ac-models.com http://Andersley.homestead.com http://galleryusarail_tehcaj.homestead.com http://eurogallery.homestead.com [This message has been edited by Alan (edited 04 April 2000).]
EasyDCC can be purchased directly from the manufacture, at full retail or from a mail-order company I have done business with and have had good luck with; Tonys Train Exchange. He has just started to carry the product and has not yet set prices. Both of these companies are on the web. BTW EasyDCC also comes in kit form, if you like to put things together. ------------------ When in doubt, empty your magazine.
Thanks Chris, yes, I do like to make things - it's what I do for a living (build models) ------------------ Alan www.ac-models.com http://Andersley.homestead.com http://galleryusarail_tehcaj.homestead.com http://eurogallery.homestead.com
I just visited Alan Curtis's site . Neat stuff. I liked your Eurogallery. My wife and I are going to Italy in Sept. and I can't wait to get some RR pictures. EasyDCC should be right up your alley ! ------------------ When in doubt, empty your magazine.
Chris, be careful when taking pictures in Italy. Photographing trains there is actually illegal, but you should be ok if you are not too blatent in a major rail station, or out at trackside. We hid behind some station platform notice boards to take some video and photos! What areas of Italy are you visiting? It is one of my favourite european holiday destinations. The People, food and WINE are great! (And the ice cream, of course ) You should have a great time. BTW file your report in the European forum on return ------------------ Alan www.ac-models.com http://Andersley.homestead.com http://galleryusarail_tehcaj.homestead.com http://eurogallery.homestead.com [This message has been edited by Alan (edited 05 April 2000).]
Thanks for the heads up on the photo issue, don't need to visit an italian jail. We're going to Milano, Roma e Fierenza. ------------------ When in doubt, empty your magazine.
Chris, keep your wife out of the fashion shops!!!!! ------------------ Alan www.ac-models.com http://Andersley.homestead.com http://galleryusarail_tehcaj.homestead.com http://eurogallery.homestead.com
I have to admit-I am a DCC freak, not only that I love Digitrax. I have found it easy to program, and over all the easest to get parts for. I almost went to MRC, geez, what I bad choice that would have been. I have never heard of Easy DCC, and was wondering if some one could point me in there direction, I will not switch, however, for 2 reasons 1-I just got Digitrax, and I will not throw out a "Chief" system 2-I used to (may not happen this year) do the demo for DCC at a Vancouver train show. Is the throttle bigger, or smaller? Hmm---I seem to be full of questions today, oh no! Maybe school has done something to my brain!!!!!! ------------------ Have a good day, //BC Rail King
BC RailKing, You should check out the post of "Dale". EasyDCC uses a large knob, very comfortable ergonomicaly. If I were you I would not throw out a perfectly good system, especially if you can program locos easily. EasyDCC is made by CVP products out of Richardson, TX. Untill recently, you had to buy them direct from the mfg. In mid March Tony's Train Exchange has begun carrying them. He says he'll have prices by mid April. I get the impression this is the 21 century version of HeathKit. Although you can now buy them assembled. For you youngsters, in the 40's to 70's Heath made all kinds of electronic kits. All were much higher grade than you could buy in the store, but you had to solder them together. Their pre-amp and power amp were as good as a Mac. ------------------ When in doubt, empty your magazine.
Hola mon ami's Thank yall for da info on EASY DCC. To be honest-I have used Digitrax for 3 years now (not always at home-I have used more than the Chief) and it feels odd to hold a big knob. Like the band aid song "I am stuck on small knobs, and they are stuck on me!" BC Rail King
BCRK, you certainly started young on DCC ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.ac-models.com http://Andersley.homestead.com http://galleryusarail_tehcaj.homestead.com http://eurogallery.homestead.com
I have my mind set on Digitrax "Chief" For those of you who know Digitrax and Easy DCC which do you like better and why? Thanks, P.S. I am building an N scale layout with BNSF and UP N Scale ROCKS!! [This message has been edited by mtaylor (edited 09 April 2000).]
MTaylor, That is going to be a hard question to answer. From what I have learned over the last few eons, is that Each of the different systems have their own + & -'s If you are Electronically chalanged like me, EasyDCC is the way to go. If reading a schematic is like 3rd grade reading, the Digitrax is for you. If you like the feel of a large dial in your hand then EasyDCC goes to the top. if you like punching buttons or small knobs are your forte' then Digitrax. Go find someone or club that has DCC and try and get to play with their system, get the feel of it. That's the best advice. Good Luck! ------------------ When in doubt, empty your magazine.
