    Special LGB Notes

I know I keep bringing up the LGB subject. I just wanted to mention some notes. I remember when I first saw LGB porducts back in 1988, I was impressed by the sze of them, but I also noticed the biggest majority of them were European style trains. I remember when LGB came out with the American style Box cars with plastic wheels, I bought one after getting into G scale. Then they came out with the Queen Anne series I believe. I remember the 12 wheel Rio Grande locomotive and Caboose in this series, the locomotive was way too short to be a modern 12 wheel American locomotive and the caboose was almost as big as the locomotive, plus in the Rio Grande name is was all the wrong color scheme. Finally LGB America came along and some real nice, more realistic rolling stock started coming out and with metal wheels. First a more modern and detailed American box car, then a nice modern Tank car and finally a modern center flow hopper car. It's a shame that LGB America finally gets on the right track producing such nice, more realistic American type rolling stock only to fall into turmoil as a company. I hope they get things straightened out because I think LGB America was on a roll to be a very agressive competitor to Aristocraft and USA Trains in the Amercian market. I also believe the had more potential to possibly produce and make better and more realistic type American locomotives. Lets hope the best for LGB America.

Picture #1 is what I think was called the LGB Queen Anne series

Picture #2 Is another attempt of LGB trying to get into the American market, this came standard with metal wheels

Picture #3 Is the LGB of America box car and what a beauty it is, very finely detailed and very nice.

EMD trainmans MOW collection now complete

Hi, I finally found the last piece to add to my collection of Rio Ggrande road name MOW equipment. I finally found the rail and tie car brand new after some prying around at Charles RO train shop. I posted some picturs for all to see.

My next & last item on my mosted wanted list is the Aristocraft Rio Grande cookie box car in white. You see, I got so mad at Aristocraft for not helping me and treating me like I'm a idiot on propblems with their locomotives that I sold every last arsitocraft train I owned on Ebay around 2004 I believe. Now I sold everything in a haste and in a mad state swearing never to go back again. After my temper lowered about a year later I started to buy Aristocraft trains back again, replacing the ones I sold, liked and USA trains didn't make. I bought the old version of the Rio grande 2 bay covered hopper in orange, Railbox 53ft Evans car, Rio Grande gondolla and even buying a newer version of the Rio Grande 2 bay covered hopper in which is gray now. Although I had alot more Aristocraft rolling stock than what I have bought back, the only other car I would like to get back is the Aristocraft Rio Grande Cookie Box car in white. If any of you know where I could get one in near mint condition with the box or if you have an extra you are just keeping on a shelf, I would like to know because I did like this box car also. Thanx

Picture #1 is my now completed USA Rio Grande work train, please note there is a bunk car, a engineering car, a kitchen car and a rotary snow plow that goes with this set, but I really don't want those items.

Picture #2 my USA Rio Grande truck car

Picture #3 my USA Rio Grande wheel car

Picture #4 my USA Rio Grande work flat car

Picture #5 my USA Rio Grande rail and tie car

FOUND! Old ad for USA Trains woodside reefers

    Hi,
I found an old ad for USA Trains woodside reefers and is marked ad #99-11. I have scaned it in and will share picture on line, not sure what year this is from but maybe the hint is in the ad number, so I'm guessing 1999.

Picture #1 USA ad for woodside reefer cars from Garden Railways magazine I have saved back from the day and forgot about it til now.

Picture #2 is the same ad, just with a better scanner, never buy a Dell printer, they are junk as you will see a quality difference

Pictures of USA Trains R1600 reefers Part 1

Here is a few pictures from my 1998 USA Trains catalog of the R16000 series woodside reefer cars. For those who aren't familiar with USA trains, these are now called the American Series and are 1/24 scale ratio.

    EMD trainman becomes board member

I was offered the chance to become a board member of train board and i happily took it. I thank those involved in offering this to me and look foward to serving those who enjoy model trains and real trains in general as well as the G scale people. I would also like to thank those for taking the time out to read my threads and posts in which I will still keep updated as much as possible. I have started a photo album on my G scale layout in which loads up slowly due to my slow connection, plus I used high quality digital photos. To those interested I have a ton of Rio Grande photos that I could also put in a seperate photo album, please let me know if there may be interest in that. These are a photo collection I have gotten from other places and sites, these are not my own railfan photos. I wil not post any copyrighted photos.

Seasonal Changes on EMD trainmans layout

Hi everyone, although I run indoors, I make seasonal scheduled train runs now that I have 6 complete sets of G scale trains. It is now getting close in time to change the trains around which is alot of work, but worth it. After Thanksgiving or some of us call "black friday" people go shopping, well I stay home that day to change the trains around. You will see new pictures of my F3 ABBA set in action pulling a long string of 40ft box cars and 40ft tank cars, then there is my GP-9 double header rumbling around with a very heavy load of coal cars, then last but not least you will see my Flat service train inaction being pulled by GP-30 double header locomotives. Stay tuned as my Rio Grande action is about to change. Not to mention I will make new videos of these trains in action on my layout.

I am just starting into g scale, I have a 1/32 slot car track 18 ft x 4 ft. I would like to enhance it with the g 1/29 to 1/32 scale. I am open to any suggestions. I am also lacking knowledge of the turn radius of the gp38 aristo and usa locos

Geoffb, you have come to the right place. You can view my G scale thread called EMD trainmans resource thread where there is all kinds of info like this that you are looking for. Just simply scroll down at the bottom of the screen and open the threads tab up to show 1 months worth of postings in the G scale main section.

You can run a G scale train actually on a 4 x 4 piece of plywood believe it or not with 4ft diamter track, but are very limited to what kind of trains you want to run. The USA GP-38 requires 5ft minimun diameter track as do most Aristocraft and USA locomotioves. Aristocraft sells a locomotive called a center cab diesel which I think is real nice and very reliable which will run on 4ft radius track. The USA NW-2 will also run on the 4ft diameter track and is very reliable. Aristocraft also has 20ft 2 axle freight cars which are reall good for tight spaces and run perfect on 4ft radius track. USA and Aristocraft both make 1:24 and 1:29 scale ratios. I not sure if there is anything in 1:32 scale that will run on 4 ft diameter. You have to make a decison on what you want, but a big EMD GP diesel engine whether it's USA trains or Aristocraft is out of the question for 4ft diamter curves.Hartland which is 1:24 scale ratio actually makes trains specific for running on tight 4ft diameter curves, but again, you are stuck with a diesel switcher.

Check out my EMD trainmans resource thread before making any harsh decisions, there are links to click on that will take you to places to view such products and charts of what manufacturer can run on what diameter curve track and what scale ratios each manufacturer makes.

By the way, welcome aboard, glad to have another G scale person aboard, this is the best place to learn a new hobby.

EMD Trainmans G scale on tour part1

Hi, we are going to take a small tour on my lay out. I run 6 different trains and have 3 seperate tracks in G scale that I run indoors.

Photo #1 Is my work shop area, the trains enter the work shop area thru tunnels from the yard room which was my computer room, but now moved that up stairs and made a yard room for the trains.

Photo #2 The trains enter the shop area and then goes into the laundry room part of the basement

Photo #3 The train will run thru the laudry room and go into the main basement area

Photo #4 getting ready to enter the main basement area. this is where the 6 person wet bar use to be complete with mug racks, bottle racks, 2 illuminated beer signs, storage are underneath for shot glasses only to be ripped out for trains. Someone was very happy to take this off my hands, I can't understand why (sarcasm)

Photo #5 The train then exists the laundry room and runs down along side the main basement wall where little finishing needs to be done. future plans include green indoor outdoor carpet, 2ft high floating back drops and of course structures.

Stay tuned for part2 of EMD trainmans tour
