Actually, I think CSX received both GP38's and GP38-2's from CR. The GP38's were renumbered in the sub-2000 range (CSX's original GP38's started at # 2000 and went upwards, but I think most if not all had been purged). The CR GP38-2's were numbered after the CSX units, starting with # 2718. At least some of these have been repainted into the CSX scheme.

The CR units were numbered ~ 1943-1999. I am pretty sure all have been retired. Some may have gone to EMD/LLPX for the "big trade" that rid CSX of there other old locos.

I thought the CSX only received CR GP38-2's into the number series 2718-2814?? [IMG]

As a piece of trivia, the CSXT GP38-2 number series starts with 2500. The 2500's started life as Seaboard Coast Line Units which were re-numbered by adding a "2" in front of their original number.
