Well, I think the F59PHI is Athearns big announcement! They are shown on Walthers website under new announcements, and they show two undec versions, as well as three Amtrak paint schemes. Not bad....I might have to get one and get into modern Amtrak operations!

I posted on www.trainorders.com that we should be patient and not hope to much for somthing. Unfortuneately they did not listen...and now are *****ing about not getting a SD70MAC.

For the guys of Trainorders "I told you so"

    Thanks...my two cents.

Yeah....I saw the dashed hopes on trainorders...despite all the reports to the contrary, that Athearn was NOT going to do an SD70MAC(athearn even says it on their website!), they still believed they were, and are now complaining that they didn't. Oh well.......

Why wouldn't athearn want to do a SD70MAC
They have had more people e-mailing and snail mailing them about it you would think they would. Roadnames could be
    CSXT
    CR
    BNSF-H1
    BNSF-H2
    BNSF-grinstien
    BN-grinstien
    Alaska

Am I forgeting any road names

Yes, I saw all the posts on trainorders, speculating on SD70MAC's from Athearn, I was very dubious, as they said they were not doing them!
The best place to get accurate information is on this site - we are more level headed [IMG]

Well Chessie, I kinda thought about why Athearn would be doing an F59PHI instead of something else, like an SD70MAC, and it kinda makes sense. Up until a couple years ago, there wasn't really much Amtrak equipment available, aside from the Con-Cor Superliners and the Bachamann F40PH. Then Walthers did the P32-8BWH, another(better)F40PH, and Amfleet cars. Then Athearn gives us the P40/42. Then Atlas releases the AEM-7, and Amtrak modelers are really happy; the F59PHI announcement really got em' going! Despite those releases, no one has done a GE P30CH, or EMD SDP40F, to pretty much fill-out the all-time Amtraak roster. As much as I love my freight equipment, I realize that there is a significant Amtrak market out there, and their needs need to be fulfilled. Just be patient, I'm sure someone, if not Athearn, will make the SD70MAC you want. Personally, I was hoping they were announcing something I could use lots of, either an SD45T-2 or MP15AC - I don't need any SD70MAC's! [IMG]

Well, I just had to jump into the fray over this.
The prototype F59PHI has several different owners:
Metrolink (Los Angeles) [7 or 8??, options for 6 more]
    Amtrak West [15]
    Amtrak Cascades [6??]
    Amtrak California [10]
    North Carolina DOT [2]
West Coast Express (Vancouver BC) [5 or 6?]
    Sounder (Seattle) [6]
AMT (Montreal) [6 on order, options for 6 more]
Also, several other commuter agencies are expressing interest in the F59PHI, including both Metra in Chicago and GO Transit in Toronto (I am not looking for a firm order from either of these 2 in the foreseeable future)
I for one cannot wait till this model comes out-all I am waiting for after this is the Bombardier Cars.
For the one who models Montana, here is a suggestion that I am using on my railroad:
Have a couple of different units sitting outside a paint shop. That way your pike can get extra $$$$ for painting under contract!!!
Also, have an Amtrak detour train once in awhile, using an F59PHI and...hmmm, lets say a P40/42.
I model a freelanced rail line that has an all GE Fleet, but I will get around that by changing out the trucks for FB2 trucks. Because my rail line is set in California, I will have Amtrak West and California units either sitting outside the paint shop, or moving dead in tow.
    Good Luck and HAPPY MODELING
