I just got this. Abt $20 with shipping. Should be here Wednesday or Thursday. That ACL engine is abt the prettiest I've even seen. I hope it's in a museum, somewhere. Thx for the info :)

Yay! That is a beautiful car -- glad that you were able to snag it. Yes, the ACL E is safely preserved at the North Carolina Transportaion Museum, along with a bunch of other really neat stuff. :)

AWESOME because we are all planning a trip to Spencer shops. Amtrak has a trip package leaving Company Shops station. We've been planning this since before Covid. Someone in the family gets Groupon discounts. But, yeah, not far from here... I've never ridden a train besides Tweetsie. Thx for that tidbit, my wife will Love this engine, I'm tellin ya..

...I guess I should've said I've never ridden a passenger train besides taking the kids to Tweetsie and going there as a kid. Hopped plenty of Southern freight trains in my teens. The trip to Spencer will be my first ride on Amtrak. There was no more Southern passenger service thru here in the 70s, and no Amtrak until I believe the mid-80s.

My first eBay casualty. That CN boxcar I bought last week never made it home. Somebody shipped it in an envelope stapled up. Looks like it's been through rough travel, but covering the paper with tape might have at least kept the thing from escaping. No more buying from estate sales.

Ouch! That's really unfortunate. Hopefully the seller can make a refund, or perhaps the postal service?

I wouldn't give up on that CN car - maybe you can find another one. It's a nice car!

Oh and the Seaboard cars? Check out the Atlas version - Atlas has a really nice 40' car for Seaboard - two road numbers in fact. One of these seems to ALWAYS be in my operating sessions. I like the heart logo a lot!

I love the heart logo, too. I can't wait until my new Orange Blossom gets here, hopefully safely. You must have noticed that I'm partial to 40' cars. No, I'm not giving up on that style CN car. It's just a shame that one got away. I'd kept my eye out for one like it for a few weeks. I'm sure the seller will refund, only 14 bucks. I just hate that one's probably in some trash can crunched to pieces, heartbreaking. I'm looking at a few Atlas similar to it, now, only the logo is on the left side of the door. I think I like it better. I'll check the Seaboard Atlas, too. I can't leave out ACL, I just haven't seen one in 40' that grabs my attention.

Is it ok to drop links to videos/sites in this forum, or is it not allowed? Bluford Shops has an awesome rail history reference page I'd like to share.

I'll go out on a limb and say it'd be okay, especially since Bluford is an advertiser here I think. By the way, Bluford makes really nice stuff.

I'll give it a try. Found this link from an ad, here, actually. Yes, Bluford has great looking stuff, I spent time browsing last nite. Now, If I can get this link to work, which some of you already know about. The dates all line up, from what I can tell. I don't see how some of you can keep up with all this info. So many changes in railroads once upon a time.

It's even got a date for Tweetsie, haven't heard the history of it since I used to listen to my old Tommy Faile record when I was a kid.

1950 - ET&WNC "Tweetsie" narrow gauge line abandoned. Standard gauge continues.

Yep. My biggest concern when buying single cars is the packaging. Everything else I've bought recently has been shipped in boxes. Refund was issued, all is square.

I got these, today. All stated as new, all MT. According to description, these are from the collection of former Red Sox catcher Bob Montgomery, if I'm not mistaken. TONS of cool stuff for buy it now. Not just model railroad stuff. I don't want to drop an eBay link, the seller's username is (lindaveto88), check out their store. These were cheap, shipping was too.

I've officially decided I'm not building a model railroad. I'm building a memorial railroad. Fallen family members, fallen flags, days of yore... all honored. A small valley with a simple 0.6 scale mile rail line. It already has a name that will remain classified info until the ground breaking ceremony. I will see this through, and see my vision come to life, as perfect and realistic as I can make it, or I'll die trying. I owe many of my ideas and decisions to comments and interaction with people in this thread, thank you. I'm glad to be here amongst so many great modelers and railfans.

You have taken the very best approach possible - you are doing what you enjoy and will make you happy with the hobby! When I nailed down what I really wanted to do with the hobby, and focused on making sure I was happy with what I was doing (ME, and NO ONE ELSE), I started to enjoy the hobby more than ever before.

You are well on your way - enjoy the ride!

I'm sure what you build will be very nice. This has been a great thread that's been enjoyable throughout. Thank you for starting it! (y)

Many thanks to both of you @Many Trains @Hardcoaler . I want to share this video and I'm sure everyone here will appreciate it. I recorded this off local TV in the '90s. It's only a 20 minute watch, just watch the intro and you'll be interested. Something for everyone. Many things have changed since this program aired. Enjoy :)

I once bought a bass guitar off of the net and for shipping they taped two boxes together, filled one box with Styrofoam peanuts and used just enough tape to keep the boxes shut. Needless to say, I received a bass guitar KIT but I did get my money back from the seller. I don't know what some people are thinking when they pack things that probably won't survive the trip...
