Bill, @#$%^&* NO I haven't got mine yet. I see from the tracking that it finally arrived in Portland today so now will have to backtrack to me. Didn't realize they were shipping from so cal. BTW thanks for the answer on another thread about gauntlet track.
Whatever happened about the guy who was going to try laying a small mirror on top of a slide and try scanning the slide on a standard scanner? Did that work? I had wondered about that, but was told it could burn out the sensors, so I haven't tried. Yeah, Im chicken.
Pierce, when did you visit Australia??? Also love the pseudo third-rail 1/4 scale F-unit! Got a new scanner with the slide'negative attachment included. It's the add-on unit that has it's own back-light. I haven't attempted playing with the beast yet - kinda short of the negatives since we are nearly entirely digital.
Bill, mine arrived today and I just HAD to install it immediately. This is going to be fun. Not only does it do slides but will make positives from color negatives. I have fooled around with it enough to become dangerous. Maybe now I will read the manual. If you have another scanner like a flatbed there is one step in the manual that is left out. My computer kept defaulting to the flatbed. Need to "jump start" the slide scanner exe and then select it as the source. Love these machines.
Would this be considered ultra-flexible track? Or, is that a bit of a streatch? Actually, this is also from the 1964-1965 NY World's Fair. It was the Swiss Sky Ride--one way to make a quick trip from one side of the fairgrounds to the other.
Jim, I have been so busy working on #19 that all I have had the time to do is take the new slide scanner out of the box, and read the booklet. I'm not sure that I understand what you mean by "jump start." Can you elaborate a little?
Bill, after the initial growing pains, uninstalling and reinstalling the software written in Chinese, this is a good product. The files are enormous after first scan, but using IRFan, it is easy to shrink them down. IRFan also has a "sharpen" option that actually works. I was going to post a picture, but realize that I haven't transferred one to railimages or my own site. Coming soon.
This was scanned from a B&W negative from Railfair 99. The commercial prints never were right. I had no idea these pictures were that good. Southern Pacific 2467 fresh out of her initial restoration.
Obviously nothing wrong with that scanner I have looked at Primefilm scanners on ebay a few times and been tempted. Do they work with XP?
Well Jim .. I have the 1800U installed .. but guess what? It keeps giving me a message that it can't connect with the scanner I gave Scanace support a call, but of course nobody answers the phone. Then I sent them an e-mail describing the problem and asking for guidance. No answer, of course Soooo .. I guess I'm gonna have to mess with it like you did to see if I can get it to fly. I have at least 4 TWAIN compatible programs installed already, so I don't think that I'll need all of the software they include ... just the driver for the scanner it'self. Then all I have to do is figure out how to get the PrimeFilm 1800U on the list of TWAIN applications on the "Acquire" list.
Bill, open the Primefilm program and click on the scanner icon, near top LH side. It should then give you a box showing a path to a "new album" of today's date. Click OK and a message should show (does on mine anyway) that says the "path does not exist. Would you like to create it?" Click YES and the scanner should start to "warm up." This, initially takes what seems like forever. See if that works.
Jim looks good....what kind, brand is that 1800 scanner...real sweet...did you order online or through a brick and mortor store? [ 06. April 2003, 00:10: Message edited by: satokuma ]
Michael, it's made by PrimeFilm and just does slides and 35mm negs. I got it at Costco, as did Bill. They had a special the first couple of weeks in March, $99. Well worth it. Scans at a default 1800 dpi, which when you resize and scale, provides a decent sized (for the net) file with good resolution. I'm having fun with it.
