    Hello Everyone:

Here is my first post of the new year 2014. I headed out to my normal spot at Downtown Gulfport, MS on Jan 4, 2014 to catch a few trains on the new year and here is what I got. Notice on CSXT Q572 and CSXT Q579 I shot those on top of the Handcock Bank parking lot. Enjoy

Wow. Those first couple of trains were sure wearing out their horns.

What was the location of the third train? Looks like an angular depot at an interlocking?

The third train was CSXT Q572-04 I shot that from on top of the handcock bank parking garage looking west on the top level looking towards the depot.

Ken, in fact the building is an interlocking of sorts, dispatched by CSX. There's a 90 degree KCS (Gulfport Branch) diamond on the west side of the building. The diamond was installed by the Gulf & Ship Island around 1907 to cross the L&N and serve the shipping port built by the GS&I at the same time. The G&SI (IC after 1927) provided passenger service to Hattiesburg, Jackson, and beyond until about 1950, thus the building is an L-shaped station that served passengers on both railroads. Today the building is an historical state landmark owned by the City of Gulfport that at times has housed restaurants, pubs, stores, museum, etc. It also served Amtrak's Gulf Coast Limited in 1984/85, and the Sunset Limited from 1993 until it was "temporarily" annulled east of New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
