Got this off of Ebay for a couple bucks, pretty cool. Then I found a couple extras in it that were stashed.... There was this insert from 1964..... And! A flimsie, which is cool because Extra 3600 is NP's first SD45! Also cool is this on page 7, the NP actually had a model railroad store in Livingston!
Yes, I agree that is a really cool find! So with such a big model railroad store in Livingston, I bet they had a lot of model railroaders back in the day. I wonder if they still have a lot of model railroaders in Livingston today? I think I'll put Livingston on this summer's camping trip route and check it out, it's only 8 hours drive from Boise and ther's lots of great camping and fishing in between!
The Mrs. and I went thru there and toured the depot area on our way to Yellowstone NP. Pretty cool place to hang out for the day, lots of history in the depot museum, and good food at the beanery at the east end of the depot too! Not to mention the railroad action, MRL helpers, and the Livingston Shops!
All around cool! I love old ephemera like that, and it is nice when you find a "bonus" set of papers stashed inside. Here's to rray adding Livingston to the travel itinerary. Sounds like a nice place to check out, should I ever get back up north.
I stumbled across this from the July 1964 Modern Railroads, showing a glimpse of the Livingston Parts Store, along with the logistics of how NP processed parts then. They describe very modern techniques in inventory cataloging and delivery. I wonder if "model railroad store" actually meant the equivalent modern speak of "state of the art railroad parts stores"
