The station building has been various restaurants over the years but the tracks still serve both passengers and freight. There is a new commuter rail loading area about 300 feet up the track but it's just an overhead shelter from foul weather. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Framingham_station http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM5XPH_Framingham_Railroad_Station_Framingham_MA https://www.hippostcard.com/listing...ion-train-depot-in-1913-rppc-postcard/5628304 https://www.hippostcard.com/listing...rr-train-station-depot-c1910-postcard/7520722 http://thisisframingham.com/images/station2.jpg http://www.framinghamhistory.org/framinghamhistory/Default/exhibit2/e20389b.htm http://www.framinghamhistory.org/framinghamhistory/Default/exhibit2/e20386b.htm
In my paperwork collection are New Haven train orders copied at Framingham and Framingham Center. What, if anything, is the difference between those two?
To the best of my knowledge, they are the same station. Framingham Center is less than 500 feet from the only station in town. Do you jhave different street addresses?
Ken, is it possible that your New Haven orders are for Framingham, MA, where the NH did interchange with the B&M? Granted, the B&M and the NH were closely related financially, but that was at the Wall Street level, not operationally. Though the BM and NH did have a joint summer-only passenger operation that also included the Pennsy. During the late 1930's until about 1950 there were trains for businessmen with summer homes in NH's lake and mountain regions. These trains were special Friday afternoon trains from Washington on the Pennsy to New York, continuing on the NH to Ayer, MA, where they were handed over to the B&M, arriving Saturday morning. These trains reversed on Sunday afternoon, arriving Washington on Monday morning. Again to the best of my knowledge, these trains went on the western B&M New Hampshire route through Concord, terminating at Plymouth, or possibly Lincoln. They did not go on the eastern B&M New Hampshire route to Conway, through Rochester and Framingham.
The NH and the B&A/NYC crossed at Framingham (midway between Boston and Worcester). NH lines to Fitchburg and Lowell diverged (just to the northwest of Framingham) at Framingham Center. See this NH system map: https://www.american-rails.com/images/19340027849osbtewpo9020998444224.jpg
