Thanks for posting here. It's amazing that the populations of three of these cities I've lived in (Hugo, Paris & Muskogee) haven't changed in population (well, actually, Hugo shrank to 4900.........).

'Nother thing I noted is Bristow, Oklahoma. The namesake gentleman, Senator, from Kansas was a distant forebear on my Mom's side of the family.

Fascinating history and travelogue. Reading it makes me sad to realize how isolated and parochial my awareness of America was growing up and being educated east of the Hudson River. Thanks for sharing this, Charlie.

The town I was born in made Hog cholera serum? Interesting! They listed a Roundhouse and Freight house at the next town but not the Springs in Arkansas right across the border???? Odd. Also the town with the Roundhouse is in a "wet" county! People would drive the 20 or so miles from beautiful Hardy Arkansas to Thayer and see the signs saying Buy Cold Beer Here!! Railroad towns need some "lubrication" it seems ;)
