There has been some interesting talk here in the G scale forum lately. Some time ago I switched from HO scale to G scale. I saw a lot of potential in the G scale and wanted to model a local short line in G scale for many years. I wanted to dispel 2 G scale myths. (1) there just plastic toys in the garden with over built buildings. (2) You need tons of space to model G scale. Stop by my new web site and se what can be done in a small basement of 18 foot by 23 foot!

Let me be the first, or second :) to say you've done a great job. You've proved once again that G scale was really meant to be indoors where all that wonderful detail can be truly seen and enjoyed.

I noticed a high second level in one picture. That's quite a climb!

I like the indoor G scale layouts. Does anyone paint - weather their G scale track? Thanks.

The steam is by Bachman, its been reworked a bit. for more on the steam you can see: The Dunkirk Allegheny Valley and Pittsburgh Model Railroad ( Locomotive Roster )

I should add that the steam video is from The ARCADE AND ATTICA RAILROAD. Arcade and Attica Railroad, Arcade NY, Nostalgic train rides and history, locomotives

    Thanks Dave.

The grade between Fredonia NY. And Cassadaga NY. was quite the climb on the prototype DAV&P. So when I built the grade to the second level, I wanted to provide a change to the operators. A 10 car train needs to be split into ½ and will still need a help to make the hill. This is closely in proportionally to a real life 30 to 40 car train an the DAV&P. prototype. The grade climbs a whopping 26 inches from the lower deck over a mere 28 foot of run. Yup that’s a really steep graded. But in an operating session we had a few months back. We where testing helpers on the front and back of the train to see witch worked best. We found that pushers worked really well. It was a real chanenge for the crews to work together to get the train up over the hill and then stop at the Cassadaga station. This is a must at this point in time because there is only 4 feet of track past the station. Very little of the second level has been built as of yet.

here is the view looking down grade. Amusement roller coaster ride or railroad, guess that depends on who the engineer is…..

Inspirational! Also, just what I need - a KITA to do something with my static display of "G" trains; not much, just a SP 'Black Widow' GP-9 and a few freight cars, but along with an HO layout under construction and plans for an O scale & S scale shared narrow shelf operating display suspended above the HO around the walls shelf, a real desire to make something happen with the G trains now. Yikes! Guess I'll have to drum up some more business to support my model train habit!

All the new track I put down, or in areas where I've not already done scenery, are painted with Tremclad (270F95) Cheap and easy!

It really improves the look of the layout and I wish I had done that from the beginning. I was just to impatient to get on with building and now I regret it. Someday I'll find a way to do it 'after scenery' and correct my mistake.
