G Scale LGB Switch Wiring

Piute Flats Branch of the D&RGW Sep 16, 2005

  1. I am planning a control box for my LGB switches. Are there two or three input wires to each switch? I assumed that since they are momentary contact machines, they are probably three leads: one common, and one each for the momentary impulse, but I am not sure.

Any information would be appreciated.

There are two wires on the LGB switch motors.
I used 12 volt DC with a double pole, double throw, center off, monotary switch, spring loaded.

I am new to LGB and I am also attempting to build a custom control box using toggle switches to operate the EPL switches on the track, but I am having a tough time figuring out the wiring. With my N-guage switches, there are three wires, one common and one for each momentary impulse to pull the switch to one side of the other...3 wires are needed. How does LGB do it with only two wires? Am I missing something? I see in the LGB wiring diagrams using the LGB control boxes, that only two wires are needed...but how? What pulls the switch back and forth? I do not want to have to purchase LGB control boxes. So...what wires go from the power supply to the toggle switches and then to the 1 orange and 1 white input on the switch? Thanks for your help...I can't seem to find out this info anywhere.

I don't own any LGB switches, but I would guess that the core of the solenoid is a permanent magnet and that the two wires simply reverse the field of the electromagnet to either push or pull the solenoid core.

As "Trains" stated above, best to use a DPDT switch with momentary contact, only low voltage DC is required, I use 8 Volts, any more and the motor can Chatter, (jump back and forth).
The Original LGB Switch Unit is AC supplied and chganges to DC low voltage internally.
