You helped me with the finding a modeling club, and you had the Unoffical TC&W homepage, which is excellent by the way, but I was curious of a few things. I would like to model some of their roster. I was looking at your photo of the 2008 GP20C:
    http://www.pnc.com.au/~audiosat/roster/tcw2008.htm

and was looking at life likes GP20's:

I don't really know my terminology that well, but in your photo, the 2008 looks to have three large fans on top and in the rear, but the Life Like Models do not? If you can give me any help I would sure appreciate it.

    Thanks, Bubba?

Good question. I have been thinking about the method I would use to build a GP20C. They were a complete rebuild of a straight GP20 from the walkway up. The additional fan was added to assist in cooling the Caterpillar 3516 series engine. This replaced the original 36" fan you find on LL's model.
I have yet to really sit down and look at the photos, but you will notice that there is 2 variations of the fuel tanks - GP9 style and GP20 style. Of the original 10 units (9 made it to TC&W/RRV&W - BN 2000 wrecked and scrapped 1990) 5 were from ex-GN units (GP9 tanks) and 5 from ex-CB&Q units (GP20 tanks).
2004 and 2005 are examples of the former and 2001 and 2008 are example of the latter.
The nose off a LL 20 would do for the 20C's and most of the hood should be about right. The dynamic brake needs a bit of work, though. An additional fan would have to be obtained for the second radiator fan.
    That's for starters [IMG]

What scale are you working in?

    Gary.

    N Scale of course! [IMG])
I was also looking at the TC&W GP30's "soo," If I were to just take the cab of a GP35 and replace it with the cab of the Atlas GP30, would I be close? I have never really kitbashed or delailed anything really, but have some time now and would like to try. I appreciate any help you may have. I am also not too familiar with terminology or really the different parts of the locos, but I did follow what you were saying about the tanks. Thanks again. My ICQ is also: 3738612.

The hood on the 30C's is quite different. I would say new sheet metal from the walkways up too. I think a GP35 body would be a better starting point. I haven't got a clear shot of the roofline, but it appears similar to the fan set-up on the 30/35. The dynamics are (what seems) the typical arrangement on Generation II's rebuilds.
Now you have me thinking about it... [IMG]
