Scott, Darren's last heading was -74*, so maybe this is near you also......?

    I thought I did, but after a half-hour of fruitless search, I'm convinced I don't have a clue.....:tb-wacky:

Granted, I've seen lots of very interesting terrain that I've only flown over at 37,000 feet, but locating a rail line that is making a u-turn on a side hill...:tb-hissyfit:

Heading - How to understand it

    Heading
    • North is 0.000000°
    • South is 180.000000°
    • West is 90.000000°
    • East is -90.000000°
So, with a heading of "-75.000000°" on the first image (and others since) I have the world seriously tilted to one side; but not quite to one side.

So, North in these images is mostly pointing --> that way but still pointing slightly upward.

So, with that information and the shadows, what Hemisphere might we be in?

See "GEC Tips & Techniques" for more on this...

Well, The thing is.. Is that I don't really pay too much attention to the shadows anymore. They can be deceiving and I can get more from the geographic features.(ie. hills, mountians, crop arrangements and such)

Oh yeah! I think Darren likes a certian continent...;)

    Hint #4

Let's look at Scott's posts so far

:tb-wacky: - Well, you can say that we have been here before...

Yep, he was right his initial guess of Australia was wrong and since he knew that it likely means he already found the spot about 37 hours ago. This means his comments since then have been for the most part correct. That's it for now from me tonight to give our other GeoSleuth's a shot based on what has been posted so far. If we don't get a winner is say 10 hours I will post another hint

The feature to the right on what looks like a hill, look like rice paddy fields, could be India or China

Darren, I think what is confusing is that Heading is usually stated in terms of a 360 degree circle, rotating in a clockwise direction from north, or 360 degrees. For example, a northeast heading would be 045 degrees, a southeast heading would be 135 degrees, etc. Occasionally a negative number is used, which would indicate a counter-clockwise rotation from north. Negative headings are not used in maritime or aircraft piloting as it is too easy to lose the minus sign in transcriptions.

Your description using the Washington Monument in the Tips & Techniques is confusing, even mis-leading. For terrestial navigation, Latitude and Longitude are commonly represented by both positive and negative numbers. North Latitude and East Longitude being positive, and South Latitude and West Longitude being negative. This representation is normally used to ease mathematical calculations such as with Google Earth entries.

Your hint of a "-75.000" degree heading indicated, to me at least, a vector of 90 degrees west by 15 degrees north starting at the intersection of the Equator and the Prime Meridian. However, after looking at every location along a line from the Gulf of Mexico through Vancouver, BC, I realized that I had to have mis-interpreted your hint. Your latest hint of "Southern Hemisphere" confirms my mistake.

    Cheers, Hank

The Heading is exactly the way Google Earth represents it and also how we use it at work.

Let me describe it another way...

Rotation Counterclock creates a "Postive Heading" and Rotation Clockwise creates a "Negative Heading" so, if I tilt the world 45 degrees to the left that is a heading of 45.000000 but if I tilt the world to the right 45 degrees that is a heading of -45.000000. So, for this challenge, I have tilted the world 75 degrees Clockwise which is a heading of -75.000000

I will post more on the Hints later tonight to help show this within Google Earth...

Thanks...it wasn't until Scott's hint about a "certain continent" did I then narrow it down.
Until then, I was all over......must have spent about 6 hours on it today.

Note how the Winning image above shows South America rotated 75.000000° degrees to the right or clockwise; that is a "Heading" of -75.000000°. See the GEC Tips & Techniques topic for more on how to understand "Heading" that I added tonight using this challenge as the example.
