I'm building an open-deck pile trestle, and was wondering if anyone had a recommendation on what type of glue to use for attaching rails to wood ties? Is it better to attach the rails before painting ties or after painting?

    Thanks for your help! Dan

Don't you spike down rails in HO scale?

I handlaid a turnout in N scale and used Goodyear pliobond. It was still in place 15 years later. With the new adhesives, there may be better items today. I will say that most of the handlaid in N scale is soldered to PC ties. Sorry to have an unknowledgable N scale guy answer this. Hope it helps.

I while ago when I was testing some different methods of hand laying, I tried Barge Cement, I can't remember where I read about it, I think it was on the yahoo handlay group, but Barge Cement was recommended over pliobond because it should stay more flexible (or something like that).

First I had a hard time finding it, until one day at a shoe repair shop in the local mall, there I found a small tube, but enough for some testing.

I didn't have too much success with it, but I probably gave up too quick. But I think if I were to build a wooden trestle then I would probably give it a try again. And I think I would first build the trestle, paint/stain it, weather it, attach the rails, and then weather the rails, but I have never actually done it, so.... I'm only guessing.
