My only visit to Canada was in 1985, and I very much liked the look of the new bi-level GO Transit cars. Some were hauled by new F40PH's but most were GP40 wide nose, with a FP7A rebuilt into a cab-control car, or by a GP40TC which contained a seperate engine for HEP. I think these went to NJ Transit sometime later. But the green and white colour scheme looked great, I believe the equipment is the same colours, but the logo has been 'modernised', and the trains now powered by F59PHI's? ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.ac-models.com http://Andersley.homestead.com http://galleryusarail_tehcaj.homestead.com http://eurogallery.homestead.com
Alan, You are 100% right, I only know because go made an appearance in BC for WCE about 4 years back ------------------ TAMR2860-AKA BC Rail King TAMR2860@hotmail.com
Partially correct on the motive power. GO Transit still uses the F59PH, which is not the streamlined version. Metrolink in Los Angeles also operates several F59PH, as well as the newer F59PHI. GO Transit may eventually modernize to the PHI model, but the only new order that I know of for the F59PHI is for AMT in Montreal, with delivery to start this summer.
Thanks Interwest, last time we were over in southern Cal. we saw some of the Metrolink F59PH's, but not the PHI's. We did see an Amtrak California F59PHI though, in Bakersfield. The reference to PHI was a mistake, I knew they were regular PH models on GO trains, I have a video about their construction at London. If you look at the picture of me on my website, you will see me standing next to a GO loco here in Georgetown. We are served by four trains in the morning and then the four return in the evening. I will get you the loco info. Whenever I go to Toronto I use the service from here or go down to Oakville and use the lake shore GO service which far more trains running daily. I was intreeged by this non-streamlined F59PHI thing so I investigated, boy they are ugly You think if they were not going to stream line they would put some attempt in to making them look good. Dane N. ------------------ TAMR2860-AKA BC Rail King TAMR2860@hotmail.com
If you liked the GO coaches, you would've loved seeing them in Southern California . Metrolink was going through some growing pains and couldn't get coaches from Bombardier fast enough so they leased several from GO. I regularly sat in one of the green coaches , but found the Metrolink interiors much more comfortable. The GO coaches appeared to be winterized, where the Metrolink coaches were more plush for us spoiled Southern Californians Ed Harrison
Yes, we saw some of the bi-levels in Bakersfield, but the GO ones had gon home by the time we got over, I expect. Must see If we can get to ride them on one of our visits. The last time I rode an American train was in 1985 in Amfleet stock, between Toronto and Flint, MI. ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.ac-models.com http://Andersley.homestead.com http://galleryusarail_tehcaj.homestead.com http://eurogallery.homestead.com
