That's a fantastic video! Really interesting to see the show and layout from a high perspective. A little worrying when entire z-scale trains were blown over by the downwash from the copter. --Mike
I have extended and slightly rebuilt my old switching layout. The loop is now double track mainline. No curved switches or single track back strech. The damn crossing switch has been replaced with two switches in a row. Thats why I had to slightly extend the layout. The track is just losely laid out on top of the plywood for testing things out. Thats why the track isn't all straight and parallell. The wires are held in place with masking tape just to stay out of the way. The sidings are still too short and can only hold shorter trains. But the ladder in and out of the switching yard works just as I want it to. My best runners for the monent are my new AZL SD70. Running like a dream with my old Marklin trafo. ESU sound decoder and CT sugarcube speaker in the tender of the Marklin Commodore Vanderbilt. MTL coupler on tender also. Very loud whistle.
Thank you Henrik. But its near no progress in modeling at the time. I hope I can make som progress this Winter.
Not a z scale video as such but the reaction of our youngest member of the family, Brooklin, who has just turned 2 to seeing Shasta in action at Furness MREX had everybody in hysterics. he is definately going to be a modeller when he grows up (if I have anything to do with it!) Curiously he loved the 00 layout next to mine 'Troutbeck Bridge' but was totally unmoved by the 'Thomas tank' layout cheers Kev

I was out at the Cleckheaton show with Cuyahoga last weekend (Tapton Junction should have been there but the water damage was too great) and on the Saturday of the show I got talking to one of the customers who had been really keen to get into USA Z modelling for a while. he was really impressed with the AZL GP7s performance and also with the MTL GP35s and as A treat I gave my two most recently acquired SD70/75s a run even though they are the wrong period for the layout. The conversation turned to steam outline and he admitted he had seen a Marklin Steam starter set on Ebay which was staring at £70 (about $105) and had dithered about bidding for it. When he found I had picked it up for £84 I had tio explain why I keep getting these when they crop up. Although crude by the standards of todays modern AZL steam locos they have always been a good starting point for getting in to Z particularly as the items in the set would cost considerably more if bought seperately. Once run in and with the marklin lubricating oil changed for something less sticky the 4-6-2 and 2-8-2 have given me sterling service at exhibitions. But not satisfied with just Northern Pacific and Burlington route I have repainted them and converted them to more interesting things a simple repaint and swapping the tender trucks to AZL ones gives a good likeness of the Nickel Plate Roads K1 pacifics More involved conversions involve converting the 2-8-2 to aan NKP H6 with feedwater heater and 12 wheel tender And the NKP L1 4-6-4 Anyway I said to him that I would knock a video together of the things I have done with these Locos and you can find it here at In it you will see Nickel Plate K class pacifics Nickel Plate H5 and H6 mikados Nickel Plate L1 4-6-4s Pennsy Streamlined K4 4-6-2s Marklin Commodore Vanderbilt 4-6-4 and the current status of the long saga that is my Nickel Plate Road Berkshire 2-8-4 (yes I am going to get it finished I promise!) and as a comparison the state of the art AZL light Mikado in ,you guessed it, Nickel Plate livery The downside of doing this is it might encourage people to start bidding for these sets in earnest and pushing the price up! Z scaler in France modelling US, superb trackwork (self laid switches and all). Please don't mind to French spoken comment (a lot of words) but enjoy the impressions of a very nice layout :cute: http://www.ztrain.eu/videos/aiguillages-montelirail-2014.webm More info and pix here: http://www.ztrain.eu/en/train-z-scale-echelle-220.php
