Part 2 2008 Ventura GTE video Here is part 2 of my HD video shot at the Ventura GTE. Burbank Dan's Steam Engine pulling some cars shows once. At the end is Lajo's PFE train.
I have a Del Mar Video ready for download, but Vimeo only lets me download one HD video a week. Next Monday is the soonest. Any requests for the upcoming Anaheim show? I have the homemade handycam mount still. I could closely follow one train for one whole lap. Or do one module at a time with the same train (camera on tripod) and follow it that way. I like plan 2 better because of the movie light I have been using has to be in a fixed position. Just depends how much natural/manmade light there is.
For those who can't wait, here is the Del Mar GTE video in regular format.
FL-4 decoder installed in the rear of a Surfliner.... in Z! Short feature showing the lights I'm working on installing on the back of my Control Cab end on a Surfliner. The car can be consisted so the lights are automatic. Tail lights in forward mode (pulling) and headlights/ditchlights in forward mode (pushing). Just having some trouble with the pickups. I need some very thin copper for touching the inside edge of the wheels. I'm trying for all wheel power feed - all four wheels on both trucks for constant lights. Don't you just love fiber optics?
Did some research on ditch lights. They are required on all locomotives. If you burn out one of them, you have to find a location to switch the lead loco for a rear loco with functioning ditch lights. The "crossing lights" are just that. To warn motorists of the trains approach with the alternating lights. It can be connected to the horn control for automatic operation or manual control. But up to each railroad if the crossing lights are used or not. I have the lights set up so that: F1 is headlights (plural - there are two under the doorway). F2 is ditch lights. F3 is crossing lights (stays on for one second when turned off, then back to ditch lights). F4 is tail lights Instead of consisting, I assigned the car the same number as the loco so everything is automatic. Solved the pickup problem. Constant lights now with car moving. Will see this weekend at Anaheim GTE. David L.
2009 Anaheim GTE show HD video is up for part 1 of the show.
Haaaaa! This is way too cool! I'm jealous.......watch that kid at the end, woouuww, close call! Very nice video, thanks for putting this up. Ben
Part 2 from Anaheim 2009. Working on Sacto GTE video next. More trains running at Sacto. Loren's new end module.
Very nice video! And thanks for showing it to us. But I need to know (too curious), did it ever occurred that a small kid had touch a loco and make it fall down on the ground, or make it derail? Ben
I actually saw a kid lean over and blow over two cars. It does'nt take much. At the San Diego GTE show, we were right next to the open vehicle doors and gusts of wind would blow whole trains over. No locos yet. And yes, kids will knock over cars. I have not seen a kid knock one to the floor yet, but there was this certain BAZ guy at the Sacto GTE last weekend... to the floor.:tb-shocked:
I stress all the time when I look at video's like this, and just seeing kids leaning close to the loco's and cars, that being said I also have a kid, and I try my best to show and tell her about the fragility of layouts. So seeing parents leaving their kids running around with no supervision makes me mad! I know I know, they are not all like this.....but! I'm probably not made for shows, I would be dead at the end of the day. Ben
Sacto GTE 2009 HD video Part 1 is up A get together of the BAZ Boyz from the San Francisco area, The ZoCal group (well, two of us anyway) and Loren from Medford Oregon. Showing off the wonderful world of Z scale. The strange thing was that there was not one N scale or HO scale layout there. Just some large scale layouts and our Z scale layout, of which ours was the biggest layout there. Loren's first time use of his new end module was great. Over 600 trees are on the module and you can certainly "get lost in the woods". 10 modules were there with 3 from ZoCal, the one from Loren and the rest from BAZ Boys. All DCC this time with a separate DC set up using Matt Petach's end module and an "emergency end" running 20 car trains just off the camera (unfortunately), but is in the background of some of the shots. In this video, as in the last, I put names to the faces so you can see some of the group. Robeert Ray was running some of his beautiful one of a kind Centerbeam cars seen here on Trainboard. Great time was had by all, especially after they turned on the heaters. It was in the mid 30's outside every morning. Kind of hard to put trains on the track wearing gloves. Enjoy!
very nice images, I surely would like a video showing how some modules are assemble together. how rails are joined during assembly. Ben
Must be Tuesday. Sacto GTE part 2 is up at: HD again. Cool music. Great video of Loren's new module at the beginning.
