Part 2 from Portola. I realize this is not Z scale. Sorry. But the Z scale stuff is coming next.

I'm at the throttle at the end this time.

Glad you have enjoyed them.
Now for the small stuff. First G, then HO, some N, one T and then the Z. First part shot from the top of an under renovation WP silver observation car. Since there was not one window on the car, I stood up through the frame of one of the observation windows on the very top.
I do apologize for the poor lighting. I had no extra lights. There are the two scenes using the light coming in from the other end of the building shining on the rails as the trains come through.
This was all shot on the 22nd of August. The next video was shot on the next day with different trains and a made up movie light.

Starting out with a walk into a WP observation car and up onto the top to look down on the Baz Boyz layout below. Then the Z scale trains using a piece of paper held overhead with a flashlight bouncing it's light onto the scenes. Much better light than the previous days shots. Left the original sound in again. Listen for the train horns and bells. These sounds were going on all the time. Some were from the train simulator from the Operation Lifesaver booth next to us, but you could hear the difference when you were there.
Enough video left over to make at least one more video from Portola.

How we do it!

Over the years we have toured the U.K with model railway layouts in various scales from Z to Gauge 1 and are still suprised at how 'half baked' some peoples ideas about exhibiting their layouts are!
We thought it might be a good idea if I showed how we move and erect 'Cuyahoga' our 'Z' Nickel Plate Road layout. It was quite a strange experience talking to a camcorder on a tripod and I did it unscripted (there are a lot of out-takes with some choice swear words on them!) but I think it comes over all right.
Part one deals with the transportation and erection of the boards

part two deals with the lighting and electrics

I'll post more soon

Some action on Saguaro River

I got some inspiration tonight to create a new video on a very short part of the Saguaro River module.

A few pictures also taken tonight:

Kevin, Great videos!! I truely appreciate seeing a fellow Z scaler working in a small work shop space as your's.... My hobby room is not much bigger...

I really like your table legs and lighting setup. You definatly put a lot of thought into your design. The "Air Box's" as you cal them are marvilous, and i wish i would have thought of a transport system like this for my modules. The casters are a nice profesional touch as well.

Great video, and even more, great layout!!

"ZoCal does it again with 13 modules and 10 scale miles of track. This show was a debut of ditch lights. Don F. was installing them on GP-35s and GP-9s. I finally got my Surfliner cab car to actually move and work (ditch lights) too. Also the premier of Lindley's re-paint of my F59PHI in the unique Operation Lifesaver orange/red with the surfer on the side. The real engine was actually wrapped just like a car with the wrap heat-shrinked on.
During the show, I found out that the real #455 has had the wrap removed. I like it anyway.
Some have requested something in the video to show the actual size of Z scale trains. I put a dime next to the Surfliner in at least two shots.
The music is from Praful and is called "Sigh"."
