I was thinking its an old Conrail facility, likely a Conrail Shared Assets yard,but I am having a hard time finding one in Detroit or NJ thats orientated north south.

 

The 3 cities in post #3, is the largest in each state they're in.

Well I need name for both RR operating from here, and of course location.

Next non disguised hint is: draw an east/west line through Kansas City and we're somewhere south of here.
