Bryan, you haven't bought anything for a while, so its ok for you buy another 10. Maybe thats enought to get us the next release. Rob, its Godiva ok. I dont have room for a lot of SD70, so I plan to have 3 SD70. I have one UP. I plan to get one BNSF, and of course, I want the CSX version.
John, Godiva works for me. No nuts please. I have to tell you guys, this SD70 run is going to be a problem for me personally. I really like all of the roadnames and varients AZL is planning. For instance, look at the UPs. IF AZL offers the UP with flared radiators and the flag on the side, that is a must have for me. Plus, I am more of an East Coast guy. CSX, Conrail and NS are all musts as well. Yikes! I need a bigger yard on the modules! Rob
Rob, my yard is growing at a faster rate then my layout, because of my laziness. I hate to pick up cars after a run. Almost all my cars and engines must have a place in the yard. Switching its becoming very challenging because there is no emty sindings.
AZL SD's I am sorry to hear that AZL no longer plans on making the SD70MAC in Z scale. I hope all other roadnames are still planned and in the making. As I stated in an earlier post, I am waiting on the AT&SF and BNSF. So, Robert Ray, that means I have NONE, ZERO, , ZILCH, Nada, of the SD 70 series AZL locos! Hah! But I will own some soon! :teeth: Hobo Tim
i would strongly consider obtaining one of the UP flared SD70s, for the sole intent of painting it in the D&RGW (UP) heritage scheme (which is on an SD70ACE i realize). but i doubt we'll see anything like an SD70ACE for a long time. how much would have i HAVE TO change to approximate the ACE? i'm not so much concerned with length (this time) or louvres, but more with adaptations to the hood, shape of the cab, etc. -- the visually NECESSARY things. dave f.
David, I think even the flares are bigger then the SD70. The flares look closer to the ones on the SD80 or SD90. There is a 3 way drawing from Railroad Modeller. I cant remember the date, but its in the same issue were they have the Z scale suitcase layout.
Actually I have enough of the modern stuff now. What I really want is the locomotive in the Marklin Diamond Special set. I want to cut the hat and sides off the cab and build an NP model out of it. I don't want the cars. I just can't justify blowing $350 on the set just to get the loco. Even if I dump the passenger cars, I am still stuck paying $250 for the loco, but it is only worth $150 to me. I'll be happy to do trades though? The next locos I will actually purchase will be GP7's and 9's. I hope they come in NP paint, as it's getting to be a hassle repainting each and every release. Has there ever been an NP loco released in Z Scale other than the Marklin Pacific?
Hmmmm.... more UPs, with flares even and my money talks with some BNSFs. The end of the year is looking good (especially if the college boy desides to finally buy his own car.
John... build more yard space! I actually plan to run an article in Ztrack on yards. Most layouts are designed with little or no yard space. It is amazing how fast we can fill up our spare tracks. Tim... Good things come to those who wait. Robert... I think you are right. The Marklin NP locomotive is the only one I know of. More are needed. A GP7 or GP9 would be a great start! Dave F... There are quite a few difference between the SD70s and SD70ACEs. The front window shape is one big difference. It will take some work to convert, but it will look great. I am pushing AZL to offer ACEs since there are quite a few versions now (UP Heritage locos and MRL for instance). Jeff M... Cut that kid off! You have trains to play with! Rob
thanks for the info rob. i think i can scratch build most of an SD70ACe, but sills, running mechanism and trucks would have to come manufactured. i haven't seen an AZL SD70 mechanism so i don't know if it could be lengthened (practically). i've done (and am doing another) GP-35 and they're not any more difficult than lengthening an N scale loco mechanism. of course i don't need an SD70ACe, but as a kitbasher at heart, that is where the fun is for me in the hobby -- and the D&RGW heritage unit compels me to consider trying it. but, then again, it may never happen. dave f.
The frame for the SD70 would be much more difficult to lengthen than the MTL because it's a lot thinner and there is much less metal. Extreme care would be required to avoid breaking the frame. I would like to build one of the ACe's too, but in MRL Blue, and maybe in the UP/WP scheme. I also like the Katy too!
David, even thought its a hard conversion, I know you can do it. I expect to see in 3 months. I love your conversions, and It makes modelling more interesting then buying everything.
Yes the Casey Jones is the same as the Diamond Special, except it has ugly shiny silver wheels and running gear, where the Diamond Special has blackened running gear for a much better appearance. I need to cut the cab off, and add a laser cut cab like Tor uses on his Needle Eye lcomotives.
Very much like them. I also believe the cab is the same as on the SD90MAC-H II; radically different from the earlier EMD widenose cabs.
Sorry, myself I've only two UP samples....Waiting for BN/BNSF/SP/ATSF of course! But if this doesn't come soon, I consider "foreign" power, ie NS or CN, like the unit I saw last year at Cajon Pass, embedded in an UP lash-up.... Dominique
No, Rob! Not mine! I've started to build my layout with a yard, that will be 25' long when completed, in order to accomodate 80-car trains!:teeth: Dominique
Gordon, here is the picture of your spartan cab SD70. http://www.torsja.com/modelltog/Z-S...006/Z-Treff-OMS-2006-04-22/pages/HPIM5932.htm
