Do we have any fans of the GP16's? For those of you that might not know, GP16's were shop rebuilds of GP7/9's by SCL to extend their usefulness. Most lasted into the early or mid 90's. Many have shown up on short lines around the country.

I think the first "prototypes" for the program were actually made by ICG/Paducah shops. These units had some interesting spotting features.... As always, I might have some photos for those of you interested. [IMG]

    Hi chessie,

Not so much the GP16 program in particular, but any of the GP7/9 rebuild programs in general. Indeed, IC began the first true rebuild program in their Paducah, KY, shops. I really like the Paducah-builts, and those that came after from other roads and remanufacturers.
I guessed my interest stemmed from wandering around the VMV shops in Paducah a few years back and having a close-up look at the stored Paducah and Louisville ex-IC GP10's and SW14's. [IMG]
And the TC&W had 6 examples of the GP10 and 2 of the SD20 programs.

    Gary,
    This one's for you! [IMG]

Recognize those lines? I was fascinated by these "originals". I think I have pics of all of the original Paducah rebuilds, in one form or another.

Here's a good shot of SBD 4602... check out those yellow number boards; a dead giveaway to its CRR road #: [IMG]

Here's the end of the line (literally) for most GP16's (as far as their CSX career goes). This is a shot from the deadline at Hamlet and shows GP16's as far as the eye can see awaiting their fate [IMG]
