I just recieved my old style drive Weaver GP38-2. Nice engine, should have bought one sooner. Now Weaver was the first one to bring out the GP38. Lionel brought one out soon after and now MTH, K-Line, Williams all have a GP38. Now who out there likes what and why? Lionels has a collectability, K-Line has doors that open and MTH has a weird roof line at the dynamic brakes. Personally I like the Weaver best, since it is a 2 rail engine. Greg
I think there is a lot of difference between the different producers of O scale locomotives and this in correctness of the model, the level of detail and quality of motors and this reflects in the prices. You will see that there is a difference of approach to the hobby between say Lionel, Williams versus Weaver and Atlas. I just have a 2 rail GP9 of Red Caboose. ------------------ Paul the 2nd Paul Van Herwegen HO Rappannahock Terminal Railway G Emerald Valley RR http://users.pandora.be/paul.van.herwegen/
Luckily Weaver and Atlas still offer their 2 rail engines with the steps and pilot attached to the frame. I haven't seen a RC GP-9 for 3 rail, are its steps attached to the truck like Lionel, MTH and Williams? Another thing I find interesting is that a GP40 hasn't been made in plastic. Because its too close to the GP38, but everyone has to have a GP38. Maybe I'm missing something here.
Greg, I thought that the pilot on the Atlas SD35 was fixed to the trucks for easy negotiating small curves and was not fixed to the chassis??? ------------------ Paul the 2nd Paul Van Herwegen HO Rappannahock Terminal Railway G Emerald Valley RR http://users.pandora.be/paul.van.herwegen/
Paul, As far as I know only the 3 rail version has the steps that swing on the Atlas SD35. I know that the Weaver RS11 has the solid steps on the 2 rail version. Greg
