Hello, I am a fan of Box Cab locomotives. I've been working on designing and 3d printing one for my new On18 layout. The layout will be nothing like you'd find in the real world, so I thought the first loco should be something original and thought maybe a Box cab. The layout will be dead rail, so the cab will give me room to hide the electronics and battery pack. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and seeing where this forum can help me...and where I can help you all. Thanks for the addition.
Hi and Welcome. On18 is a gauge that I'm not familiar with in the 1:1 world. 15" gauge is about the smallest I'm familiar with. Is there a prototype 18" gauge somewhere? Secondly, what do you mean by "dead rail"?
Hytec, to answer your questions: 1) On18 is a narrow gauge version of O scale. It uses O scale sizes (1/4 in) and runs on, basically, N scale track. 2) Dead Rail - The track has no power whatsoever. You have the locomotives powered by batteries. So, I am creating my own locomotives using N scale mechanisms and a 3d printer. LOL I can make anything I want.
Aha, thanks for your innovations. Welcome friend. Hobbyists with off-the-wall ideas bring expansion and new life to our hobby. Hobby, by definition, a hole in our lives into which we pour money.
Welcome to TrainBoard! Please do share your On18 adventures! I am an N scaler of nearing 50 years, and also a long time dabbler in HOn30. Back when I had a house, even had some On30.
Welcome to Train Board. I too work in an lesser known venue. The esoteric 1/384, 1/32" = 1 foot, Omega Scale model railroad. (I should be working on it now, but I am "piddling" on here .)
