The Harrison County Development Commission has contracted with Mississippi Delta Railroad (Rock Island Line) to operate the 5 mile Industrial Seaway spur in Gulfport. The Rock Island will interchange with the KCS Gulfport Branch at their North Gulfport yard. RI GP15-1 1106 was transferred 2 days ago to the KCS engine terminal in Gulfport where I was fortunate to get unobstructed photos. What's really neat is that the RI paint shop put the old G&SI emblem on the rear of the body. The Gulf & Ship Island was the original builder of the Gulfport Branch between Gulfport and Hattiesburg, MS in 1912.
Outstanding photos @Hytec! Wonderful to see that the line's owners took the time to recognize the road's history with the 1106.
Research shows that 1106 was originally CNW 4411, bought in July. 1976. It then was owned by UP and GMTX before RI bought it.
