Thirty-five years ago today, on April 1, 1976, Consolidated Rail Corporation (Conrail) began operational existence. Their success paved the way for the rail industry's resurgence. While it's weird to think of them as a fallen flag, CR is that not due to failure, but to their very success. Long live Conrail! Dieter Zakas
