After looking at some real pictures, helipads are fairly large. Which looks better for N Scale? Here is a real one: And I fly them in flight simulation sometimes. I should have known this? So I guess the larger one? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Me? I'd say, 'Selective Compression'. Sure, smaller is not 'real' but it's a compromise and in the end it is about the overall balence of objects.
Yeah all it has to do is look good for me. I like the smaller one even though maybe a bit bigger. Not like a real Helicopter is gonna land on my N Scale layout Plus I can put one of the smaller ones on my warehouse roof. I guess the people that own the loading dock are rich In my mind at least! After I cut the styrene to fit I have HVAC stuff to go on the roof, and paint the styrene. Same with the office building that comes with the set! I also have a Miller Engineering sign that goes on the roof of the warehouse.
In the picture of the real thing, it looks like the diameter of the circle approximates the rotor. Maybe the model helipad size should be between the two you've built? But yeah, @Grey One 's mention of selective compression is spot on. Go with what scales well in the scene. As I read your post, I remembered that I had a helipad on my N Scale railroad when I was young. This picture dates from about 1973. I had a cool little helicopter, maybe a Huey UH-1B, but I have no idea. And an RAF warplane too, as seen by the runway. My airport was an aviation hazard in the first degree with those trees and catenary poles about.
I seem to recall that 'Bachman' made a n N-scale Huey, P38, and Sky Hawk. I could be wrong. With 3D printing can anything be far behind?
Yeah I am going with this after looking at several pictures of real helicopters, and there is just extra area, asphalt, concrete, or grass for the remaining area for vehicles and such! Think we figured it out, and it mainly has to look right to us, or me I'm going with the diameter of the rotor for the actual H circle? I'll do the dime thing too! Here is a supposedly 1:160 version? Looks like my smallest one needs to be just a bit larger.
