I might as well get in on the introductions as well. I'm 26 and grew up near the Conrail Enola yard in PA. I currently live in NW Indiana. Having grown up around trains and having been a avid model railroader in my youth I am looking forward to getting back int he swing of things. I had a 8 year break from trains while I was in the Army but now as a civilian again I'm ready to get back to my "roots". Up until this point I have been a devout Lionel collecter. I have my own train as well as my Great-Grandfathers, Grandfathers, and Fathers Lionel trains as well. Recently I have been interested in G scale. My first "new" layout will be in G scale. I look forward to chatting with you all in the future.

Welcome to the TrainBoard Jason, tell us about your plans for your "G" scale empire! I started out with Lionel too, then my Dad and I went to HO in 1937, and I have been here ever since. My wife bought some G, but hasn't gotten too far into it yet. Are you going to build a show case and keep your Lionel or sell it off to go into the G size?

JOtto, I used to live in Valpo, on Wahoub Lake. I've watched many trains there by the University campus (I'm a VU alumni) and took trips behind the N&W J 611 and the A class 1218 2-6-6-4. I caught both of those en route to Fort Wayne from Chicago at the crossing over Route 30. Whenever the train stopped there, the engineer always stopped so the steamer would be sitting directly above the highway on the bridge, and I remember how traffic on all four lanes would stop and gawk. These memories are the reason I model N&W now. Good to have you aboard.

    Thanks for the welcome everyone.

    Watash,

I plan on starting fairly basic with a layout ringing my living room. My intent is to build the basis for an outdoor layout when I finally buy a house. The way it looks I will mostly start with locos and cars from USA Trains. As far as my plans for the outdoor setup it's too early to say. The way I am it will continue to grow and grow. I'm most excited about the working G scale rotary snowplow that's available. I can't wait to get the layout outside when the snow comes!
As for the Lionel even though by selling them I could easily finance my G scale layout I'm going to keep them. For now they are in a display case. Who knows someday I may have G scale outside and O scale inside.

    Black Cloud,

I have lived here in Valpo for a little over a year. I enjoy goingwest of town on 130 to visit the triple crossing and also day trips to Rochelle, IL to see the BNSF and UP double diamond crossing. Having grown up 35' from the Conrail Enola Yard main tracks coming out of that yard it's a little less train watching than I'm used to but better than nothing.

    Welcome aboard Trainboard Jotto!

If you have any questions they will be answered, if you are interested in any scale train we will have people tell you all about them. Or if you like to chat and share your love of model trains your more than welcome too.

As for us we love trains so much we talk about them all the time, we swap information and give suggestions and even offer advise to those just getting into the hobby.

I see your taking a liking to G scale, well you do know you can have a very large layout in your own backyard. But if you don't have a big backyard a very big basement will do nicely. These G scale trains can be run outside or in or both! If you have any questions our experts and board members will promply answer all.

    Welcome back to the hobby!

Thanks for the welcome UP Big Boy. Your name is somewhat ironic. I just ordered and received a new DVD from Pentrex videos on the UP Big Boy. It has photos and movie clips on all 25 of the Big Boys. Very nice movie.

    Welcome to Trainboard JOtto!

Speaking for the N scalers, it's always nice to see another modeler (regardless of scale).

You mentioned Conrail- as you look around, you'll notice we have a Conrail forum, as well as one for most of the predecessor roads (except for Penn Central, Lehigh Valley and Reading). I'm not too terribly knowledgeable on railroads east of Chicago, so any and all info you may have is welcome.

Have fun here, and don't hesitate to ask if you have questions. [IMG]
