I have been modelling Hereford's railways in N for a number of years. The vicarage loft has provided excellent space to do this. This has resulted in a growing interest in the North West Route through the Welsh Marches. Thus first blog post in this thread relates to some of the websites I have visited while exploring the potential of the area around Hereford for modelling:

I have always liked the UK steam and passenger operations. The word Vicarage caught my eye. I am in a former church parsonage over 100 years old and I am in the process of rebuilding another layout after a retirement and eventual move. My man cave is the old parson's office which is now my office and train room/workshop.

Lofts are great. I have my modeling workshop up in my loft. Someday I may build a layout there. So far only a test track on a hollow core door.
An old photo of my work bench. The old computer is long gone.

The railings at the top of the spiral stairway to get to my loft. The doorway into my train room is on the left.

I like the idea of a spiral stairway. I only have a drop-dowm ladder through the old loft hatch.

    Hi John

I have been living in the Vicarage for the past 15 years. I still have to use the study for what it was intended!

    Best wishes

    Roger

One of the iconic structures which was part of the station at Hereford was the platform signal box.

The footbridge at Hereford Barrscourt Station has recently been completely rebuilt. Until then the skeleton of the old footbridge remained in place but in a much less photogenic condition than the original. The old footbridge bore some similarities to the one at Gloucester.

The main feature of any layout is usually the railway station. I was delighted when my father-in-law, who had his own O-Gauge layout decided to make the station building for me in N-Gauge. ..... This is the first of a series of posts about the construction of the station building:

My father-in-law died a while back now. Before he did so he produced a series of short notes about how he constructed Hereford Railway Station Building for me. The post above provides a link to the first of these notes. The remainder are below:

This is the final post from David about his work on the model of Hereford Station:

I have worked on a number of the other station structures myself, specifically the two signal boxes and the footbridge. All this work has been done using relatively thin layers of card and building up thestructures in panels before joining them in the manner that David illustrates above.

Some of these models appear above on this thread.

Roger, This is a wonderful series on the scratch building of this complex station (Depot), in N scale. I loved it! - Tonkphilip

Some time back I was posting about modelling Hereford in N Gauge.

We were living in Ashton-under-Lyne and the modelling took place in the Vicarage loft. I am now retired with my wife still working.

We have now moved to Telford and the powers that be have generously allocated a relatively large bedroom for the layout. Some compromises are inevitable as the space is smaller than the loft in the Vicarage in Ashton-under-Lyne.

Staging has been built and my library is close to being sorted out. I will need one new fiddle yard, the electrics will need connecting board to board for the layout and some damage will need to be rectified.

Completing the staging is a good step forward!

I will post pictures over the next little while. ..

I'm retired too, but my wife still works also. Well, someone has to pay for all the N scale stuff I buy.

    Hmm... Kiz sleeps on the
