Railroads and models of them are my first hobby, intermittently from my youth in the '60s to now. Back then, it was the Southern Pacific, the railroad of my hometown Lafayette, LA. More recently, it's the Colorado narrow gauge, particularly the D&RG/D&RGW. Indeed, I just finished my first work session with the Friends of the Cumbres and Toltec, working on an idler flat that was used in the waning days of the D&RGW narrow gauge in the '60s for pipe hauling to the Farmington oil fields. Having had various modeling ambitions over the years, now I'm staring at the shelf above my desk, thinking about a 7' x 1' narrow gauge yard/roundhouse setup with which to putz around with the Blackstone K-27 I bought a long time ago. I'm also considering Slim-Gauge modules, as there's a good bit of interest in that around here. But then, there's all that N scale SP stuff from my earlier days, just begging for a negotiation of basement space with my wife... But, my main reason for joining here was to find a place to discuss DCC. I've long had an interest in the guts of it, relating to my day work in aerospace software. I mess around with Raspberry Pi SBCs, started picking at using them to make DCC command stations. I've got some code that overcomes the non-realtime limits of the Linux OS by using some of the on-board peripherals and the really handy pigpio library, but I'll discuss that in the DCC subforum. Anyway, good to be here... Glenn Butcher Colorado Springs, CO
Hi Glenn, welcome. I understand your interest in DCC. Our museum received a load of DCC equipped engines. This DC Dinosaur is having fun trying to learn it. "OOPS, I didn't mean to do that."
