Another one that just occoured to me would be some Baldwin sharknoses. I think this would be a good project for P1K to take on. On the subject of Proto, I think they're one of the last of the good manufacturers. The detailing is excellent, they run well, accept DCC easily, come in multiple numbers, and can be had on eBay for usually $30-$50 each. Another thing I like about themis that under the hood they're a lot like an Athearn and so if sopmthing does go haywire it's easy to pull them apart and fix things.
Here's what I'd like to see in HO from either Rivarossi, P2K, or Broadway Limited with thier sound system; 1. B&O EM-1 2-8-8-4 2. WM J-1 4-8-4 Potomac 3. WM I-2 2-10-0 But especially the B&O 2-8-8-4!
And the Burlington Northern! I have a couple of these one as a high hood BN unit and one that I have choped nosed that one day will be an ATSF SD26. With a bit of detail work these are very nice locos, both of mine are almost silent running and smooth locos.
Odd you should mention that- I had an SD24 from Atlas I repainted into BN colors, after redoing the grabirons and adding lift rings. I would run it with an Athearn GP7 I repainted & redetailed into a BN (ex-CB&Q) diesel. I donated the GP7 to a museum in Hugo, OK (they wanted diesels of local railroads), and sold the SD24 at a swap meet. That old Roco drive was a good one, and I still have three GP38s I painted in Frisco (after adding the appropriate details and paper air filters).
Well, the last time I answered this question, my wish came true. Thank you Broadway Limited for the N&W Class A 2-6-6-4. Now, if you could just get them to market. JPB- try to get an undecorated 2-6-6-4 from BLI, and paint it your colors. As for my next wish, I would like to see M1a class 4-8-0 or a streamlined N&W 4-6-4, the one that looks like a smaller version of the J-Class.
Unfortunately, Broadway is out of my price limit, although everything I've seen shows they are great. I'd also loves to get one of the GG1s. For loco aquisitions I usually keep an eye on the big discount hobby shop ads and occasionally check ebay. Back to the topic of this theme, I'd also add a pre-century Alco (RSD-15 for example) or a Lima switcher with a mid-body cab to list. Again these seem like ideal canidates for the Proto 1000 line. John Bursi
John, eBay has had three or four GG1's for sale lately. I live in Fort Worth too. There are 20 on eBay right NOW! This link should take you directly to them. Hurry, the first one in the list is a Rivarossi and goes off in 5 minutes! Go man!!! (If "click" doen't work, "copy the link" and "paste" it into your Browser and GO--o-o-o! http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?cgiurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Fws%2F&MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&query=GG1&categoryid=&ht=1&st=2&category2=19128&SortProperty=MetaEndSort &BasicSearch=&from=R2&catref=C3 [ 12. Well what a great selection we have had so far. What I would like to see these by the following manufacturers: 1. 2-8-8-4 DMIR or B&O (Rivarossi) 2. A good 2-10-4 ATSF (Broadway/Bachman) 3. A 4-8-4 #3751 ATSF!!!!! (Broadway) 4. A GE AC60CW UP (kato) or (Atlas) 5. A EMD SD90mac ph2 UP (Kato) 6. SD70Ms with flares or new cab or both (genesis) 7. Tunnel motors! (Proto) 8. A Pa Q2 (Bachmann) 9. A good C40-8 (Atlas) 10. U36, C30-7, B23-7 etc.... (Proto)
I seem to have forgotten one- the SD38/SD38-2. It was used as a heavy-duty switcher by C&NW and Frisco, and sees service on the EJ&E and some other former US Steel roads. Basically a GP38/GP38-2 on an SD40/SD40-2 chassis with longer "porches" fore & aft.
Athearn has announced the release of their GP60M and GP60B, available in Santa Fe "Fleet" colors, Beansniff (both "Fleet" and "Tijuana Taxi") and Maersk. It's in the Ready to Roll line and it's gonna run for a C-note here in the States, so start hitting the online discount places NOW (Caboose Hobbies, Standard Hobby Supply). Wee bit rich for my blood, and well after November 1980, so out of my era- you Uncle John guys can have mine.
Noooooooooo, no one can make one of them! If they do people will stop asking me what make my GATX one is (kitbashed one, I posted pics a while back).
As Proto 1000 have done most of the turkies ( and I bought them ) what we need now are Centipedes and Sharks. Regards Steve
Steve, I will be putting a couple of HO Sharks on eBay soon. Email me before I do that, because we wont be selling outside the U.S. I am guessing somewhere like this plus postage. Live mid-market rates as of 2003.05.18 06:57:19 GMT. 17.00 USD United States Dollars = 10.4841 GBP United Kingdom Pounds [ 18. May 2003, 08:02: Message edited by: watash ]
Hey Bob, between which towns can I expect to find those SD45-2s? Do you know the unit numbers of the ones operating? I've got one in the works that's mostly finished. Oh, and your comment about Colorado real estate hit home (literally). My wife and I moved from Roanoke, TX to Durango, CO and back to Roanoke within two years. You know how to leave Durango with a million bucks? Bring two million with you when you show up! As for me, I'd love to see the Athearn U boats get on slim fast and be released with plastic handrails and hex drives. That would be pure heaven...
I weighed in on this subject earlier, but I see the comment was made that not much was said about steam. I agree with Watash, that 2-10-10-2 would be great along with a 6-8-6 turbine in plastic! Also a 4-12-2 although I'd have to tear up a lot of curves and change the radius!

The 904 is in the Helm red & blue colors, while 913 is in the gray & blue of previous owner CSX. They're kept in Denison over the weekends, and my guess is that they run down either the BNSF line to the Metroplex, then make their way by trackage rights over to Royse City (northeast of Rockwall on I-30 ), or they head east to Bells then south on the former Katy Greenville Sub. No kiddin'! I was looking to pay 50 grand for a 2-story townhome in Clifton, CO (a place not exactly known for its high-class citizens), and if I ever were to buy the house I'm in now in Sherman, I'd pay 30 grand more for a 2-story 1800 sq. ft. home, with a yard that didn't have to be plucked with tweezers! And don't get Coloradans started about costs going up, unless you want a fight breaking out. Ah yes, so would I.............
I guess this is a diesel only listing, but after doing some painting, detailing, and "fixing up" of diesels (I have too many of them),--- and one of the fixup jobs was doing something with a "Trains" U-23B brass shell that had mysteriously and partially melted in an oven after painting. I have gone back to my original love. I am being held prisoner by the steam mystique (I have too many of these also). I'm getting to it--I would like to see a MODERATELY priced (IHC) HARRIMAN PACIFIC & MIKADO. By the way Mod Pwr/Mantua has begun advertising the diesel and steam engines. Denis
