I model modern-era UP as my primary road. I have 11 locomotives, 8 of them are UP (including a couple heritage SD70ACe locos). The rest are Amtrak, Metrolink and SP (which would technically still be UP) I am planning to get some BNSF and NS/CSX power in the future though for variety's sake.
I have no idea what my main RR is but in this order. Grey and Grandure - Zero Canadian Pacific - Many - 15ish? Great Northern - A few 10 at most and likely to be culled Bangor and Arroostook - Two - Permanent Japp Japanese National RR - My bullet trains - 8ish?
My breakdown would be something as follows: 10% SCXY (My primary road) 70% ILSX (The lease company that is co-owner of the SCXY) 20% BNSF (The Class 1 that serves the SCXY)
I'm going to violate Sharkman's request and give a number: there are five units I could use during the operating session on the Wilmington and New York which is my "primary" railroad: two VO1000s, an H16-44, a GP7 and a 44 tonner. There is also a D&H RS-2 which is the only power I use for the interchange run. I take the fifth as to what percentage of my accumulation that represents.
Around 20% for each SF, BNSF, and C/B & O. The rest are a wide mixture of whatever I thought looked good at the time. I like to have the entire consist with the same road and engine type, but other than that I don't mind the mixture between different trains.
In that vein 0% !! T.H.E.R.R. is a fictional freelance home road. All my locomotives are either leased or second hand purchased locomotives. NONE have been patched or painted for T.H.E.R.R. yet. The ES44AC I bought was supposed to be the proud flagship for T.H.E.R.R. BUT...it still gives me grief now and then...so not sure I want to bother redoing it for the home road. :-( So yup...related to the question... 0%
100%. Union Pacific, Wasatch Grade, Transition Era. My son has the SP engines for the Ogden LDE, and I may end up getting some SP Alco S4's to run in the Ogden Yard alongside the UP S4's, which were both leased to the OUR&D who switched both the SP and UP yards in Ogden. But, as of now, every single engine I own is Union Pacific. Just for giggles: And: Cheerio! Bob Gilmore
I commend you on you road fidelity Mr. Gilmore! If I knew back when I started what I know now, I would be the same way.
The wife has a general idea... and doesn't mind. Technically speaking, the trains predate her in my life by 26 years Besides... there are far worse vices.
Thanks for the commendation, but, my "road fidelity" is a product of deciding five years ago to get rid of everything (cars and engines) that didn't fit my layout location and era. See those GTEL Superturbines? I sold all of 'em because they're not in my era, although they're proper for "The Transition Era", just not 1947 through 1956. I sold quite a few SP diesels in bloody nose, and a whole pot full of UP diesels that were too recent, including a lot of brass. Was both a painful and cathartic experience. Good thing was that I made quite a bit of money (especially on some of my brass, which, in some instances went for three times what I bought it for), which let me buy more Big Boys, Challengers, some brass FEF's (when they'd appear on eBay) and get all decked out with a top-of-the-line DCC system and about a grand's worth of decoders to start me out. So, although "having" engines that appeal to me was great, selling them enabled me to become much more centered in my efforts to make progress on my modular layout. I still have about a hundred cars that are "post 1956" which I take to the shows and offer up for sale to whomever is interested. It may be a long time before they're all gone! But, all of my engines now fit my era and my location.
About 90% Rio Grande Plus no more than 3 units in other names. Also includes a few NON US prototypes.
Curious question. Originally I just assumed the majority of my power was in my favorite road paint, that being Alaska RR. But after I did a count it comes out to be only 27% of the roster. Granted I've got 6 more ARR locos coming soon so that would push the number slightly above 32%. But the winner of majority status in my train room is surprisingly the BNSF (including BN and Santa Fe) with a total of 35%. Brian
