Hmmm.... were you watching me counting my fleet of locomotive a couple of days ago????
Seriously... I was up at 2:00 AM looking at the quantity of locomotives for my NON-main road fleet.

I can give you an idea of the Western Pacific ~5%, Northern Pacific ~6%, Southern Pacific ~17% & ATSF ~17%... but... that's as far as I got.
I can only imagine that I have slightly more than 20% of the Rio Grande... which is my main road name.
I have several other western road names too... which likely makes up the other ~30%.
Probably a total of 5% of eastern road names and undecs make-up the rest.

Don't know if it's legal to post on this yet because I'm still mostly in planning (so I'll do it illegally). All my locos will be decalled with my freelance road name, the WP&J, for West Patience & Jubilation. Will be two color schemes though, for which I already have the airbrush acryllics: Green on Black and Orange on Brown. I can see it all now!!!

I'll have to say 80% of mine are primary (WP and TS), with a few post merger BN (CB&Q, GN), SP, UP and D&RGW thrown in.

I'll put my two cents in, even though I model in HO scale. Not too many posts for HO. I freelance in the transition era, and have about 35 locomotives. My freelance railroad connects to the Northern Pacific at one end of a point to point road, and the Milwaukee road at the other end. I custom painted about 18 of them for my Logan Valley, both steam and diesel, the the remainder are decorated for the MILW or NP for interchange service and borrowed or leased locomotives. This way I could have off road equipment show up on my rails. Here is an example of some of the diesel roster.

So far UP has the most at 28% , steam and diesel combined WWII era. The logging road at 18%, NP at 18%, GN at 22% US Army at 7%., AT&SF at 7% The owner spent the rest of the motive power budget on other things for bench rest shooting ...

Primary, there are two, WP (28%) and SP (35%). Others represented on my layout are: Santa Fe 10%, Sierra 8%, CCT, ST&E andGN all at 4%, Sugar Pine Lumber at 3% and a few others at 1%

Everything I own is either Chessie System, B&O, C&O, or WM, so I guess you could say they're all part of the home road as the Chessie System itself was just sort of a giant holding company that had a universal paint scheme.

about 90% CB&Q, with the remainder in MILW and CGW for on-layout interchanges...

I just recently have been "lightening up" on my inventory...( I sold a great GN F7A/B/A set that would've been "run-thru" freight power in the later part of my modeled era, and some other items)...so I can concentrate on getting my base operating scheme functional for ops sessions.

I'd say about 60% is Rock Island, but that's still growing as I get more painted.
The other 40% is made up from a combination of my short line, the W&OV, SP pool power, and then there is one train each of the CNW, MKT and MoPac, all of which have trackage rights and may or may not make an appearance during an ops session.

Of the Cmpa, i have 6 units, the protype SW8, and four RDCs although they are drawbarred into pairs. Also a genset. There's a GP 10 still. To paint, and since I'm modelling (Well, no layout but..) more of a location than a road, you could count the two predaccer SD7s nd Doodylebug in PRR paint. Im also bjilding a small roster of INRD for the club layout and in that I have 2

Edit: dod not see the request for percentages. I honestly habe no idea how any engines i own. And although i am modellimg Imdiana regiomals, i have soehpw inheirited a dozen or so junker Santa Fe F units...

Over 40+ years of collecting has yielded 142 locomotives (a lot of inexpensive early engines, many of which no longer run). I model the Pennsylvania Reading Seashore Lines which almost never has N scale locomotive representation so I only have 3 (2%) Atlas PRSL engines. However the PRSL was a state forced marriage of the Pennsylvania RR & the Reading in New Jersey so I also have 66 (46%) PRR engines and 9 (6%) Reading engines so technically I have 55% of my roster being home road lettered.

Many of the other engines were collected to show early colorful engine paint jobs in my display cabinet.
