    Hi guys,
I work for the railroad and just recently started going on the road alot. Whenever I'm at my away from home terminal and have to use the hotel internet, I keep getting logged off of TB. I'll look at the new headlines in the railroad news, maybe not even read anything, click the TB logo up top to go back to the home page and I'll be logged out. To read a few headlines, that's a process that only takes a few seconds and that's just one example.

I'm guessing this has something to do with the security system for the site? Can it be changed for my profile?

    Thanks for the help.

I am guessing that the hotel internet is not allowing you to accept cookies. It seems that these issues usually have to do with cookies.

I'm having the same problem on my home computer, which is set to accept cookies. In fact, right now I have nine trainboard cookies in my browser. I tried to follow the above link, but it took me to the "No Thread specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator" page.
I log in, do a bit of reading, 5-10 minutes or so, and suddenly don't have permission to look at photos or respond to posts because I'm not logged in. It's pretty annoying. Please help.

Yes, I click the "remember me" box.
I went through my Firefox and cleaned out all of the junk, and the auto-logout stopped. For a couple of weeks. Now it's doing it again. I am once again having to log back in every ten minutes or so.

The reason you are being logged out is that your computer is discarding the cookie. Your cookie is like a key; as long as you have it you are in. Your security software or browser, is killing the cookie.

Nope. Got seven Trainboard cookies on my computer now. Browser is set to accept cookies. If there is a particular cookie that needs to be there, let me know and I'll check.

Do you have access to a second computer to see if the behavior is repeated, or a second browser on that computer?

Yes, I have a laptop. The same thing happens. I use Firefox and WinXP on both computers. I'm really getting tired of having to constantly log in. None of the other forums that I frequent have this problem.

Having similar problem ... if I do a long post or spend time thinking and rethinkin a post, I find I am logged out. For me the problem is time between "actions" Short response, no problems ... long post, knocked off.

    Any clues appreciated.

I find this happens at any site with vbulletin software, not just here. It happens when the admins reset the 'new posts' list, erasing all of the previous 'new posts' on the list (which they do periodically at any vbulletin site). After a while of this, I learned to highlight and copy my text when I made a post, just in case I would have to log in and paste it before I could post it. Which works, and isn't all that frustrating if you keep a sense of humor about it all. :)

This is totally incorrect. We never reset any such list.

Anyone getting logged out, are you checking "Remember Me" when you log in?

    Yes, already!.

    "Remember me?" checked? Check.
    Still getting logged out? Check.
    Problem solved? Bounced check.

I had this happen after a fresh reinstall of XP with an upgrade from FF 3 to 4. You had mentioned that you cleared out all the junk, but I'm not sure what that means. My solution was to delete EVERY TrainBoard cookie and let the system rebuild them. After that I never had the problem again so I figured one of the cookies must have had some corruption or something. For those using FireFox that don't know how to do this, right click on the webpage, select "View Page Info", then click the "Security" button at the top right side. Click the "View Cookies" button, hold down the CTRL key while clicking on every TrainBoard cookie you see such that all are selected, then click "Remove Cookies." For good measure, I probably closed the browser completely, then re-opened before going back into TrainBoard. You of course will be required to log in again to set the new cookies, but hopefully that will be the end of your problem.

    Regards
    -Mike

    Interesting.

Well, it certainly does happen at the same moment that the 'new posts' list grows much, much shorter (as in disappears). Whether someone resets it manually or not.

Sorry, I think you just don't understand how this works. No one is resetting the list and it is, in fact, never reset globally.

The "New Posts" link is cookie based for each user. If you last visited on January 5, you are going to see new posts since your last visit. If I last visited on January 7, I am going to see new posts since then. It is individual. If I visited at 7:00 this morning and then returned at noon, I am going to see new posts since then. The new posts are not global, in other words affecting all users. The new posts are directed at you personally, not the group.

BTW, I've edited your signature, We don't allow links to political web sites.

:pbiggrin:Whatever the reason, I now enjoy more time to prepare posts. Think because I carefully check "remember me" now.:pbaffled:
