The sun angle also brings out what looks like a big stone head just under the left end of the bridge:

I was actually referring to the stone outcrop above the highway, and never even saw the one you point out.... Very interesting!

Those trees are really taking over. Time for a "vista cut" as my friends in the forestry business used to say. :) Looks like BNSF property to the right?

Accurate. I'd definitely need something more than my little bow saw to vista those trees...:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Richey, MT elevator row. These used to be served by the GN and then the BN for a while, long abandoned, but easy to imagine many boxcars lined up here,

Wow. Hard to believe that a site which once used that many elevators, is now just a fading memory. :(

Richey is so close to Sidney, 50 miles or so, that it wasn't 'worth it' to the RR......

I can picture old GN 40 footers all lined up for grain loading on a crisp Fall morning.

They were all probably crazy busy during the grain rushes in the 50's.

They've looked at shippers in this fashion so much and so often,...... If coal and oil go away, they'll have almost nothing left.

Lostwood Hill, west of Stanley around milepost 4, BNSF Grenora Sub. OK, so there IS a train, but it's so terribly heat distorted....

Lots of "green grease", but it's been so popcorn-fart dry in ND until this week, the RR actually set the grass on fire in 3 places at the summit.

While on approach to land at San Francisco, the plane came in over the south end of San Francisco Bay. An old railroad swing bridge on an abandoned line. No connection any more on the west side. :(

No train, no track and no bridge. [07/1980] This is the CNJ's Turn Hole Tunnel at Glen Onoko, PA, deep within the Lehigh River gorge. It was a double track tunnel when opened in 1866. In 1913 the CNJ moved its mainline to the right, cleaving off the edge of the mountain and eliminating the tunnel. The CNJ kept the tunnel track in use as a siding into the mid-1950s.

The Lehigh Valley's main was also to the right (operated by NS today), with both lines once contesting for space in this narrow area.

Another look at the former CNJ, but with track. This was taken 09/1982 at Easton, PA looking east across the Delaware River bridge into NJ. I think CR rehabilitated this bridge in the late '80s, moving its trains off the LV's nearby bridge. Love that signal bridge with the semaphore signals, bladeless and long out of service.

Hardcoaler, only a model railroader could have invented a scene like that. It's not prototype! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
