This site has so much N participation. We should be able todo the same in O! This is the best site I have found for getting constructive help. We just need more O folk to know about it. Spread the word.

Are you an O scaler? If so, maybe you could share a few words about what you are doing? Photos?

I am primarily an N scaler these days, but do have some On30. It has not yet progressed beyond some acquisitions and a circle around the Christmas tree. Eventually I will be starting some modules.

i am going to make a very small 2 rail switching layout that is based on a real prototype spur that had some potato warehouses that were serviced by the northern pacific then burlington northern. the spur is located in east grand forks, mn and is no longer in use.i will gladly take pictures when i get started. all i need is a bit more track and a burlington northern atlas gp15-1 to get it going. thanks, dan

I am new to the model train hobby. I have two O scale sets. One set is flat on the 4 x 8 sheet of plywood and one is elevated on a tressel. Am currently building mountains. and next need to redo the graphics on my plywood and do some wiring. Never wired anything before so any advice or pointing to resources would be greatly appreciated.

I have a little O scale, 3' gauge (1 engine and 3 freight cars) and a standard gauge scratch built flatcar frame I built so I could try out some San Juan Car Co. couplers, which I hope to fit with working uncoupling bars. I'm very interested in building some stock to proto 48 standards to connect with my narrow gauge line. But no layout yet, or anytime soon...

Who needs a permanent layout to enjoy O? We set up from Thanksgiving weekend til Little Christmas. So it all comes back down this weekend. I am looking to join a club in NJ though.

For the wiring, are you going to control the units conventionally or with some form of command control? It also depends on what track you chose. Do you have any turnouts? If you post a pic, we can take a look.
On my carpet central, I run this with a lead to each of the tracks under the tree (they are isolated, so I can park 1 train and run the other. 1 lead at the front and back of the outer loop (to minimize the possibility I will need to go to the back of the layout to fix something). The figure 8 has alternated between 1 and 2 leads. The raised track has 1 lead. For a permanent layout, you probably want a few more leads. For a unit with DCS or TMCC, you definitely want more leads. 18 gauge wire is good. 16 gauge is better. Guys like to solder directly to the underside of the track, to hide the wires.

For anyone that remembers this from last year, I widened all my radii. O 54 and up on outer loops, O-42 and O-54 mix on fig 8. O-42 on raised loop. Looks better and I can run faster without derailing. And I can run a premier Berk

O is cool. I model mainly N but started collecting O 3 rail about 15 years ago. I had a layout but it was taken down due to life changes. I mainly collect MTH Premier with mainly eastern roads (B&M, MEC, D&H) and mid west roads (CB&Q, CC and CRIP). Love Proto 2.0. I too now just run my O from Thanksgiving till New Years on the floor. My Christmas train runs a new Christmas car each year.

    Hi everyone!
I just found this sight today and promptly signed up. I've reverted to my childhood with O-gauge after jumping to HO as a teen, N, and even G scale! I have a mix of RailKing, K-line, and old Lionel (my Scout set). Up to this point I've been doing a Christmas layout, but I'm ready to build something more permanent once I have the space. I've posted some snaps of last years layout. I'm tech. trainer for a commuter railroad so this is like bringing my work home.
    Thanks for listening.

    Bob.
