Hopefully some of you enjoyed a shorter work week with this past Monday being Labor Day. Well it's Friday again and time to start thinking about what is on the building bench or layout.

Clean-up continues for me as rain keeps coming with no relief in sight. The process of going through wet boxes, salvage, placing items in Jeep, moving them up to my apartment and organizing said items is long and tedious but must be done as the wet garage isn't getting any better. My goal is to get the RC aspect of this done so I can work on the model railroad aspect. That said my goals are small this weekend.

This is how the layout appears now. I plan to remove the #5 turnout that leads to these two spurs as well as take out the two spurs. I have now decided to model Potter Place NH which is of the Northern Line of the B&M.

Here is the goal. Add the #5 turn out as seen here and add the small spur or if I get bold and find a cruved turnout, spur as per the prototype. This time the spur or siding will have the track soldered and also the spur will be flat on the layout base "in the weeds". I'm hopping to have the seen look like this...

We have been discussing the project over in the Layout and Discussion forum for a bit, you can read about my goals here: http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine...-little-help-with-branch-line-operations-in-N if your so inclined.

So how about you? Where do you stand, what are the projects that are demanding time on your pike? Post those goals here and as always pictures are appreciated. On Monday we'll all meet back and discuss progress and post more pictures.

Well, our first child is three days late as of this writing. So we will be at home waiting for him to decide to come. (Hopefully no induction next week)

I am going to lay out my yard tracks on the first level and see if I am satisfied with the configuration. I will also glue down the lauan roadbed to the foam which has been glued down and dried. Probably also paint the roadbed and foam board prior to laying out the ties. My rails just shipped yesterday so I won't have those until next week.

Hopefully I can get some ballast and hand lay some rails next week between the diapers, formula and toys.

I am not going to get to do any modeling for a couple of weeks. I go to Salt Lake City for a training today and tomorrow. Then Sunday I fly to Tacoma to work at Ft. Lewis until the 23rd.

We have some houseguests this weekend, so the most I'm likely to do is show off the layout to a couple who may or may not be interested. We're going to do some tourist things in Boston over the weekend. I think they're heading out Sunday afternoon, so I may get a bit of time. If so, I'll work on hand-painting the trim on that Merchants Row kit.

That sounds pretty neat, Jim. Are you going to scratchbuild the depot?

Pat, congratulations on little railroader number 1! My little engineer number 4 has me up early this morning (the whole week) as he explores the idea of walking prior to his 1st birthday later this month. The down side, I'm tired. The upside? Lots of time for working on trains! :)

I got the I-beams I needed yesterday so right now I'm working on attaching them to some strip styrene and building the frame and stubby little platforms for the ends of my boxcab. This is basically the last task prior to paint and I'm very excited to get it done. If I have time, I may also get to build a cardboard template of the car float and float apron, which also means that I can run some trains back and forth (only for testing purposes, of course!) :)

I'm going to be with my club at the Newburgh NY Mall on Saturday operating our HO modular layout. While I am modeling in N as my main scale I still purchase HO equipment to run at the club and at shows.
