Bases are loaded, Top of the 9th and our star hitter is up to bat. We're on third as our star hits a fast ball into far right center, out field... It's a home run as we run into home for the weekend! Too soon for a baseball analogy? Nope, my Red Sox are in the middle of Spring Training so no reason why I can't use one! Like baseball, I love the weekends and the promise to get stuff done.

Saturday: I plan to get these N scale beauties done.

You may remember a few years back, I painted similar models for Galesburg RR Days. I had a customer in Chicago approach me a while back wanting to paint a Kato SD70 and a C-44 in the two schemes seen here. Yes the road numbers are appropriate to the BNSF roster and no offence to my fellow Santa Fe modelers, but the former AT&SF Dash 9 wear red again but this time Chinese Red. I keep painting these up for customers and myself hopping that Warren will get the hint, but those class 1 railroads have better things to do then listen to a custom painter. A bit more work and I hope to have them finished. I'll also work on the O-scale items too despite the lack of needed supplies that is holding me up.

Sunday: I want to work on my Inglenook. I was able to get all the track down last weekend so I want to get all the feeders soldered into my bus line as well as set up the Tam Valley turn out controllers. I would also like to get the NCE DCC panel installed and maybe if it warms up enough like they say it will, replace a few ties and paint the track. If all goes well, I'll be able to run a test with a locomotive and some cars. I even have my first show set up for this mini layout at the end of April in Decatur. I also need to spend some time on the City Job modules as we are just about a month away from our first show in Urbana, Illinois. Of course, domestic duties, time with sweetie and Jess are all personal mandates that must be acted upon but enjoyed as well.

So how about you? What do you have planned for this first weekend of March? Are you preparing for train shows? Track work? Maybe some scenery? Let us know, with an image or two. We'll assemble once again on Monday the 6th to see what we accomplished. Until then, have a great weekend, stay busy and safe and as always...

    High Greens!

I hope to "plant" power poles for downtown Saticoy around to and past downtown Oxnard to the engine terminal. and, continue messing with GS-4 4453 (Function only decoder issues) and my BLI PA-2' s-- advanced consisting issues. And - continue work on a couple of pump jacks.

Hope ya'll have a great and very productive weekend,

Well, it seems my layout partner is now back in the saddle, as it were. (At one point he was talking about abandoning the whole sh-bang, which was quite distressing.) So, I think I'll spend some time working on the layout modules in anticipation of some upcoming appearances this April.

The other thing is that I've had this "redecorating" project set upon my back burner for a couple years:

My plan is to strip off Atlas' wonderful lettering to try to redecal this in a more modern scheme. Like this:

Its for an upcoming layout project of mine. I'm not really a fan of the government's "forced yellow striping" program, but I want to make the Atlas model look more like one of EJ&E's later schemes.

I'll report back in a couple days and "cho you". Well, after I visit one of my favorite regional train shows tomorrow, that is. ;)

^ I've had very good luck with Pine Sol getting the Atlas pad printing off. I miss the EJ&E orange up here, although I caught a GTW Geep running light the other day on it. Almost as cool.

Really? I find a small charge of black powder set off just under the cab window works well.

Also a mixture of grout, diet pepsi, Ray's BBQ sauce, and... Well, that's a story for another time.

this weekend taxes, but in the spare time adding foam to the layout and shaping along with trying to figure out how to hook up ground throws (frog powered) Caboose industries 224S to some of the installed Atlas turnouts.

I'm a little unsure about posting this here. I plan on starting some painting after being away from the hobby for some 20 years. However, I'm sure all my Floquil/PollyS paints are completely dried up and unusable .. and new ones aren't cheap. Sooo .. there's this I found and ordered a set. Anyone else find this interesting? I realize the paint colors aren't necessarily going to be the "right" ones, but heck, we wind up mixing most of our colors custom anyhow, right? And who can't use lots of grey for buildings etc ..

Feel free to yell at me if I shouldn't post here, or post stuff like this here. I'll learn, I promise!

Not at all, long as you give us an update on your progress over at the Monday Weekend Modeling Accomplishments! BTW, since you were painting last, a new kid in RR paints has showed up and has made Floquil/Polly Scale virtually obsolete. Well Testors discontinued the line anyway in favor of spray on tan or whatever they are doing now. Take a look at Tru-Color paints. They along with Tamiya, are the only paints I use in the shop now.

Thanks much for the tips on paint! I'll go take a look - ain' the internet a wonderful thing?

I was in Fred Meyer this weekend, noticed a little device that appears to be a "pressure/spray source" mounted on a bottle - promises to be easy to clean and you can spray pretty much ANY paint with it - essentially making any kind of paint into an aerosol. Not sure if it's practical, but might be a lot easier than setting up a whole airbrush system. And cheaper - the thing was only about $13 - Preval is the manufacturer - ever hear of it?

That looks like a really cool device, but the problem I have with spray cans is the fact that you can't tell how much is left. I used a can on a c-17 (the plane) I built, and was afraid of running out the whole time. It did eventually run out, but I had finished painting just before it did. I would also have to agree with Jim on the Tamiya paints. Although they are aircraft colors, the greys, whites, blacks, etc. work fine for trains. They are better quality than Model Master, which I usually use do to its availibity at nearby craft stores. Here is an f-104 in SEA camo that I airbrushed with Tamiya paint. image.jpg
