Welcome to the gateway to the weekend! I hope all that celebrate had a good Thanksgiving. I know I was busy Wednesday night baking pies and cooking most of the day Thursday. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite Holidays. Some of you may already be on your extended weekend but a few of us still have a time clock to contend with. Either way, let's discuss what we plan to get done this weekend.

Saturday: No real plans except to celebrate Thanksgiving Part 2. We'll be going up to Angela's Grandmas for turkey and all the fixings. Outside of that, I have no real plans.

Sunday: I may tackle a project or two, but more than likely, we'll decorate the inside of the house for Christmas and set up the Christmas Train. Since we get a natural tree each year, decoration of that will not be for another week or so. It's hard finding time to get model projects done this time of year.

So how about you? Are you in the same boat as me? Is the busy holiday season I jokingly refer to as the "Holiday Madness" keeping you from model railroad time? If you are planning to work on some model railroad projects, feel free to post them. There have been some great progress reports of late so let's keep it up. We'll assemble again on Monday the 29th, the first day of Hanukkah. Until then, have a great weekend, or rest of your long weekend, be safe, stay healthy and as always...

    High Greens!

Here's hoping you all had a Happy Thanksgiving! No mad rush out to the stores for black Friday here at our house. Today and tomorrow will probably be consumed with helping the wife dig out the Christmas decorations, putting up the trees and putting out some lights. Would like to make a run to get some scenery material if I can fit it in and then find some time to do a little more scenery work before the weekend is over. Another thing on the list is since I won't be at the office, I should be able to tune in and what our host Jim live this afternoon instead of always catching the replay later.

    Have a great weekend everyone!!!!!

We’re out of town until Saturday for Thanksgiving, so I don’t expect to get much done on Sunday.

My goal is to attach the wood trestle to the foam display base and plan for scenery for it.

The other thing I would like to do would be to install more turnout ground throws on the fascia to help make the main track ready for test trains.

Hope to finish up power supply wiring under the layout and have it all in place, so that I can start to think through my initial order for track. With my kid home for the weekend, Christmas decorating will be on the docket as well.

Will get some modeling done this weekend, but not too much. Going to the NC State - UNC football game at 3 today, tailgating for a 7:00PM kick-off. Then tomorrow afternoon going back over to NC State to see a basketball game against La Tech.

Betwixt and between all that, I plan on airbrushing a couple of cars, the Korber water tank I built about a month or so ago, and then repainting/weathering the tall lattice steel bridge pier at the center of the layout. Plus, I have one coal car I lettered for BERWIND about 32 years ago. Never weathered, so I'll probably weather it up a little and put on some Kadee steel wheels. Also I have about a dozen C&O InterMountain hoppers I've never pulled out. I may weather a couple of those and put them into service.

    Happy weekend all!

    My weekend started Wednesday.

Wednesday I powered up the layout, cleaned track and ran some trains. I really like those BLI locos I bought. I test fitted a switch I obtained in a trade. I needed a #4 switch and I traded a free-moN module frame for a scratch built switch. I am reworking the track on one section of my layout to extend a yard track. It will work great. I pulled out an old Bachmann tractor I had in my parts box and a set of Walthers end piers. The club has an area in need to f a bridge. This wasn’t gonna be used by me any time soon so why not give it to the club to use. Got the pats all painted and ready to go for next week.

Thursday- even though it was Turkey day I was able to work on the lead to my staging yard. It has a bit of a slope and the foam had too many whoop de dips in it after cutting it. So a little paper mache material and it’s all smoothed out.

Friday- I need to hit the LHS. I need some .025” wire. After running the trains I realized it is time to install the tortoise switch machines. Have 24 of them. We don’t do the black Friday madness thing. Although I do need to hit lowes and harbor freight for a few tools. Later today I will glue down the road bed on the yard lead.

Saturday - I will glue down track and later in the day get it all wired up. Then plan a little scenery for it.

Sunday- not sure, May start assembly of the tortoise machines. Then I have to take my daughter back to her dorm at the university she’s is attending.

Baby sitting, more baby sitting and yes, you guessed it, baby sitting.
Am putting down the very last bits of track here and there.
Established a couple of 'fiddle' tracks, er, I mean 'interchange points'. One is gravity fed and roles into the yard track I select
Am working on design for lare, (3"), smily face to put on flat cars. The 11 month old seems to react to them.
Related: I am in the market for used flat cars and gondolas.

Have a few small detail parts to add onto the tugboat kit started last weekend, and done. Next project will be? Well, several have been started and need to be picked up again. Or maybe a new one, such as a laser depot kit. Hmmm. Decisions, decisions.....

I'm working on the frame for the N scale sawmill this afternoon and hope to finish tomorrow. Next project is drawing track plans for my HO Frisco Ft. Scott and Beyond layout.

    Someone mention a tugboat?!o_O

Love them, especially older steam ones used by railroads, like the Milwaukee Road "Milwaukee"!:D

Started on actually wiring for DC/DCC Thursday night and into the early, early morning and finished up the initial track to be wired, and most amazing is it actually worked after testing with DC and then moving over to DCC once I actually secured the Terminal Board, and taped a few wires. I was extremely happy that it actually worked. For me the terminal board was a life saver. And since both bases are 2' x 4' I don't actually have to add wire, just connect the terminal joiners directly to the terminal board, meaning less places for electrical problems, no splicing, which for me is a good thing. The simpler the wiring, the better for me.

So continue with mockup to see if I need wiring to the spurs, yards, whatever they are called :) Gonna work on the Remote Switches too later tonight to see how it goes, and possibly wire some Just Plug lighting to the Walthers Modern Gas Station, maybe? Just for testing.

Oh, and finally tonight for sure, attach the foam board via screws ( used tape before making it double sided ) not a good idea. Nothing like flipping your small layout over to wire, only to realize you forgot to secure items correctly. It was both funny and frustrating at the same time. Taking my time this go around is really paying off for me. And it is much more enjoyable too, ( and still frustrating at times ) to see things actually work out the way you hoped.

My wife came home on Wednesday, making Thanksgiving extra special this year. She is feeling better but has a long way to go. She still has a cough at times and gets out of breath easily. Found out the clot was basically blocking any air from getting into her right lung. We have an appointment with the hematologist on Monday so we should have more of plan after that.

Plan on taking the Thanksgiving decoration down and put away. Then comes the beginning of the Christmas decorating.

I need to make a foundation for the passenger platforms to raise them up to track level. Once that is done, I can begin ballasting. I also have a bunch of cars to change out couplers, add metal wheels, and other tweaks. I have about 20 cars I need to evaluate to see what they need to be brought up to standards.

Fine reports. I am on here later than usual due to "accidentally" falling asleep. @in2tech, congrats on the wiring! Had a fine time yesterday. Got to visit with my great granddaughter. :D Right now I am working on a boxcar as well as a new drive link upgrade. Have a great holiday weekend. (y)

Its a bit scary from my usual perspective to have some chump change to spend so I plan to head over to my local Ganahl Lumber to see what they may charge for some multiply birch ply cut in strips for my L girder benchwork plans. I have some 1/2" and 3/4" needs.

Hoping to get my Bachmann 2-8-0 to look a lot more like a Southern Pacific loco...
Still a work in progress...the loco to the left is an Oriental Limited brass model.
