Well it happened again, the weekend ended, now time to let us know how you did. I ended up getting next to nothing done as my weekend was spent getting ready to move back home to Illinois. I'm slowly beginning to realize that the layout will probably remain untouched until life get backs to some sort of schedule. So how about you? How did you fare? Any goals accomplished on your layout? Any shows you attended? What kind of scratch building did you finish? Let us know how you did and as always, pictures are appreciated. We'll do this all over again, except starting on Friday as some may have a long Easter weekend. High Greens!
I was able to get to my towns museum for a couple of hours to do some more work on the wiring. I also was able to fabricate some trim pieces for the facia on my clubs layout.
Work on the layout progressed on three fronts: 1) I tried my hand at spray painting the lines on the asphalt roads in South Slocan. Much was learned and I expect my next attempt will go more smoothly. 2) I began painting the backdrop on the Slocan subdivision from where the sub penetrates the mushroom to Lemon creek and finally 3) I refined the assembly jigs for snowshed #2. I hope to stain the stripwood and bents and then begin assembly of the snowshed this week. We'll see how far I get. Have a great week everyone! md
I had to help a friend move over the weekend. Between that and work, only 1 foot of track got ballasted. It didn't help that I had to spend time clearing ballast and glue out of a switch so it would work correctly. Good thing I am not in any rush to get the layout done.
My main accomplishment was getting the terra-forming in the lake area completed. Looks like a white out, right now. You can see the depression for the lake. After work, I hope to get the plaster sanded smooth, and then start getting the earth pigments on. Also, get rid of all my "protection", clean the tracks in those areas, and get trains running again!
Did not get nearly as much done as I thought I would have. I am about half done with wiring up the 24 turnout connections. I purchased some wire at a local surplus store at a very good price compared to what I was seeing on the Internet. However, they did not have the guage wire I was looking (22Awg) and I end up with 20 or 18 awg. But I was not too worried as I still thought this would work with the DS64's. However, I soon found out that the wire was too thick to fit into the DS64 terminals. So, I ended up using splices of smaller guage wire connected to the DS64's with decent success.
Day late to the party, but here it goes: As stated in my blog I've begun the third track/passing track on the display shelf. All rolling stock clears but because the tunnels in the overhead storage shelf wasn't measured for double stacks, the intermodals have to stay on the outside track. Over all it's been a weekend of accomplishments. The one thing I didn't get to was swapping kadees into my newest athearn genesis boxcar (see my blog to know how much I really paid for this boxcar, that's why I have premium stuff on a budget). Next weekend is chocked full, you'll see next friday.
Posting late due to laziness/exhaustion, but better then not. First up, some shots of the new BRS Paintshop, sponsored by the ReStore Choptank: While the Pink Foam baffles the sound rather well - and concentrates it low in the basement, its still a noisey SOB, and the slit at the top has to remain to allow for some cooling. I have the odds and ends needed to build upper drawers, and I hope they will help with noise reduction as well. But with some noise reduction in place, painting commenced on a number of fronts with priming/sealing a number of models: Since White Tower never made it to the Bayou State in real life, mine is about to be reborn as a Crawfish/shrimp/crab boiler, under the theory that the building was for sale cheap in the 1980's and came south on a flatbed truck. The MOW truck body is one of Lou Judice's Roundmountain Models Shapewas products, and will be in KCS paint shortly. Unfortunately, painting has temporary halted on these projects because my bottle of Reefer White is now a semi-solid, so a new supply is in route. I also got back to another long suffering project: Details of which can be found here: http://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=24823.msg259481#new
