Welcome back everyone. I hope you all had a great weekend with lots accomplished. Let's get started.

Saturday: The sun never came out and it was just cold and miserable, so Ang and I decided today was a good day to clean out our closet and donate to the local resale shop. We have come to the conclusion that we will be entering a new chapter next spring so it would be best to clean the house and perform some purging the next few months. Ang then wanted me to accompany her to a local antique dealer to pick up some vintage Christmas decorations she had been looking for then the big box store to replace a space heater. We have a rule in our house to try and buy American, Canadian or non Chinese items if we can help it, so I did not have high hopes of finding a heater. To my surprise we found a unit that was built in America with domestic labor and parts and $10.00 cheaper then the import. That was a surprise! Once home I worked on track plans.

Sunday: Was exactly as predicted, cold, rainy and windy. We refuse to start the furnace until November but we were tempted! That space heater came in handy and we soon had to turn it down. For over a year, I have been struggling with a track plan for my N scale 6-foot shadowbox. I finally used a track program, Anyrail, to design my own with switching in mind and loosely base it on B&M. The great thing about this program is you can print it out in full size and lay it on the layout. So I did just that and did a few "virtual" switch jobs with the locomotives and cars I plan to use. Looks like I finally found a winner. The rest of the day was spent relaxing and listening to pod casts.

So how about you? How did you do this past weekend? Let us know. We'll come back on Friday, the 29th to start the process all over again. Until then, have a great week, be safe, stay healthy and as always...

    High Greens!

    Forks in the road.

I was fortunate to end up being off from work Friday, so that gave me another morning to work on building turnouts and fixes some old mistakes on turnouts salvaged from years past. Two #8 turnouts for the A/D tracks and the Drill / Service tracks were completed and installed on the layout.

I also built the scale track from part of my #6 turnout template and freehand with the NMRA gauge. Each rail at the scale is a single piece of rail, so this should perform very well, still need to solder the points to the throw bars.

I also built three sections of benchwork for the upper level and fastened those in place as well.

    Nada, nothin, null, zero.
    Well, sorta.
Drew up a semi-1950ish post modern bungalowish. Very square lines to practice cutting out.
Walked grandson to Kung Fu practice, (he's working on his blue belt). The commuter rail runs past there so I took a vid through the chain link fence. Not sure it's worth posting.
Took a nap Sunday and woke with a plan on getting track down.

Doesn't look like much, but made good progress with building an under-the-layout shelf to hold my power supplies and making a mounting for a surge suppressor/power strip. The shelf is a wire rack that I bent and cut to fit. It'll be screwed to the bottom of the (HCD) layout. In back of it is the mount for the power strip. The four screws will allow it to be easily slid into place. (I dismantled the power strip so that I could precisely mark its mounting holes.) These pieces were both sized to fit behind the fascia, so will be hidden from view.

Well. As advertised on Friday, it has been beer on the beach by day and great seafood by night. Also, we are returning home today and this morning, I scarfed up a large mason jar of beach sand from underneath the cottage for layout ground cover accenting around the layout.

    Good morning all,

It was intermittent rain here on Friday and Saturday then a good non stop soaking on Sunday.

I got the cork down for all of the major tracks on the new section of the layout. There will also be several spur tracks but those won't have any cork under them. I also started the sanding and contouring the edges of the cork.

Also started to plan the roads and buildings by making cardboard templates of some of the buildings. I ordered a wood structure kit off the big auction site and will look forward to assembling that. Found out the club in Santa Clara is going the have their fall open house in a couple weeks so looking forward to going to that. They always have a large sale area so will be looking for things I can use on the layout.

Did not get the outside things done I planned to do. Saturday, we took a drive to Valley Forge National Park for a couple of hours. Weather wasn’t the best, but it was good to just get out and be outside. Sunday we went to Delaware and got gas for my wife’s car.

I did get 5 sets of metal wheels painted and installed three sets. Found out that two of the used Walthers boxcars I picked up last year have trucks that are not for them, aka they don’t fit correctly. One car has one correct truck and one incorrect truck. They run fine but I will need to find replacements at some time. I changed out the couplers on a Bowser caboose.

Hmmm. The boxcar painting did not happen. But I did assemble the module kit, as planned. Chatting on-line with a fellow HOn30 modeler, I learned that an item I had thought to have been long out of production is still available. So hurried to the noted site and placed my order. If as good as they used to be, I am thinking perhaps I will order a second one! Suddenly, the weekend was over....:D

    Good mornin to Y'all,

I managed to make some good progress this weekend.

    Saturday: Painted the F7's black.
Then I cleaned the mainline on my layout -- and --- ran a couple of trains. First time in months. and, with no issues.

    Sunday: Clear coated the F7's
Cleaned up an F3B shell for a friend. Then put on the first color of paint.
Started the paint removal process on the next F7 project.

Hope Y'all had a great weekend,
    Wolf

Speedy and Vakay acting as weights 20211025_111209.jpg Edit:
I found a couple of 'extra' weights to hold the foam down for gluing:
That is 'Speedy' on the right and 'Vacay' is the ginger on the right. As soon as track goes down 'Speedy' will be banned from the living room as he likes to chase trains. Vacay, (as in vacation), is laid back to be bothered. He might hiss at them but mostly just watches.
    -----------
Oh, does today, (Monday), count? I just finished gluing down the base to the Eastern segment. I think I'll get some bolts and washers to augment the bond of Tightbond foam to cabinate top.

When that is done I'll be putting down the 'Wescott Plan #4' portion and link it to the not yet laid 'main line' loop.

I have to share 'running rights' in the living room with the family so it gets unpredictable what will happen when.

Friday night bowling was not the greatest and we fell out of first place, will hope for better next week.

Saturday, had our club meeting and all went well, we had a pizza feast after the meeting and will soon be back to a regular Saturday schedule instead of just 4 people at the layout at one time. Also started decaling an Airlslide Covered Hopper along with building a 50' ACF Ribbed Side Boxcar.

Sunday, managed to paint a couple of boxcars and a pair of 40' trailers, continued with the decaling on the Airslide and started on a 40' trailer. Got out one of my undecorated Tangent 86' High Cubes, as shown below:

Started building it but came to a screeching halt as in the pile of little parts on the left, I only had one of the Keystone Springs for the cushioning system, although I had two of the Hydracushion springs but the car I was building needed the Keystone Springs. E-mail sent to Tangent, have not heard back yet.

    See you all later!

A lot of "to-do's" done here. Me: Errands earlier. Still grinding mental gears on the next phase which will be attaching side walls to roof. Next: Walls and lower parts. Then: Smaller parts. We will see what we will see. (I know, shall, right?) (y) Have a great week! :D

Great weekend. When it comes to joining a club I am still up I’m the air. Thursday was a gods visit though.

Saturday was spent installing decoders and working on two loco shells. I need some replacement grab irons now for alcos. These things are tiny and hard to find when dropped. They look great !

Sunday I finished up the two shells and started decaling another. I’m finally getting through my backlog of modeling projects.

I also worked on the last track segment. I think I got the grade figured out.

Got the Atlas VO-1000 working. And some more mock-up on the layout to give me a general idea of how it might let look, maybe. Kinda of fun
