Hi all, I come seeking knowledge (in another post). I started dabbling again in N scale after being laid off and during the pandemic when I ended up having too much time on my hands. I decided to build a couple of 2x4 baseboards with foam and keep my experimenting limited to those for now, striving to take what I thought I knew before and build some reliably-running trackwork in those small spaces before trying anything bigger. I have a dual loop for running and an Inglenook for switching, and have been using these to test track cleaning, attachment methods, DCC upgrades, you name it, whatever we have ongoing questions about. Keep an eye out for my latest inquiry about couplers!
Hi Mark, welcome. Glad to have you aboard. Apparently you're aware of the various modeling forums available on Trainboard. I hope you receive satisfactory answers. Remember, there are are never any "dumb" questions, merely ignorant ones. Which is why you ask them.
Welcome aboard, Mark. I started in N scale in a similar manner in 2004 using a basic track plan on foam insulation. The layout was inexpensive and conducive to rapid prototype. Plus you get the experience of laying out track, wiring, running trains, and scenery that helps build skills and plan your next layout. I also wanted a fully functioning signal system which is not trivial. My hardware solution helped me understand why prototype railroads had such elaborate pole lines. I solved that issue with software, some custom hardware, and Loconet. https://www.trainboard.com/highball...nneapolis-louisville-southern-railroad.67739/
