I was playing softball in Alexandria, VA, and saw the Tropican Juice train fly by. The was the first named CSX engine I have ever seen. Working by Union Station, I have see all Amtraks heritage units at one point or another, but have never seen any other heritage units. I guess this is the closest thing, being a "celebrity engine". Did some research, because I honestly didn't know who Rice was. Got a good history lesson in Seaboard. And the dude was a MG in WWII. Pretty sweet.
Backgrounds of these people can be fascinating. Too bad you were preoccupied. Maybe you'll see it again, and have a camera handy!
I hope. It was neat seeing the Amtrak heritages, but it's nothing like NS. I'd love to see one of theirs.
