Limited stock is available for Rivet Counter HO CSX SD40-3! CSX inherited reliable SD40-2 workhorses from various railroads including Chessie System, Family Lines, Conrail, and more. In 2011 CSX initiated a rebuild program to ensure many additional years of service from their SD40-2 fleet. While much work was done internally, the biggest external change was the replacement of the entire original cab/nose/sub-base assembly at the front of the locomotive and the addition of an e-brake stand on the “back porch.” Due to the poor condition of the original cabs from years of harsh operating conditions, a new cab assembly, supplied by National Railway Equipment (NRE), replaced the original. Designed to offer greater crew comfort and safety, these boxy cabs breathed new life into CSX’s venerable SD40-2s. The rebuilt units were re-designated as SD40-3s. For the first time, we’re offering the Rivet Counter™ series HO Scale CSX SD40-3 in the popular “Boxcar” logo paint scheme.
