    Well ... poop! *chuckles*

I think I see what you're saying about the #4's. Back to the drawing board I guess. Meanwhile ... until I logged on a sec ago & found your post I thought I had made headway. Oh, well ... better to know this now than to find out after an order was placed. Thank you Viper for pointing that out again. It shows you can get tunnel vision (so to speak) & plumb forget this has been said before.

I'll go ahead & post what I had finished minutes ago:

    Looks nice on paper anyway.

I'll have to fiddle with it a bit more, but you can see the gist of what I'm after. Two spurs on one side, open on the other for the ice pond, skiers, etc.

Pastor Dave, can you PM me the AnyRail file and a list of what pieces you already have?

Are we sure my layout won't work? The #4's curve away immediately.

I'm reasonably sure it will work, though you'd need to use a knife to cut a little bit of the built-in roadbed.

Ya know, It just hit me a moment ago ... the title to this post was poorly worded by me. It looks as though I'm asking for track. That isn't what I meant to do. The "parts help" should be "help identify parts". At the time I originally posted I knew basically what I wanted, I just couldn't get the hang of software & was wanting help with part numbers. I'm terribly sorry if anyone has been thinking I'm begging for track. Sometimes I'm such a goober. I just didn't word it properly & oddly enough only now realized it. Please accept my sincere apology.

    Yay me! *chuckles*

Just checked the kato website & those 2 turnouts on my layout are #20-202 which is a #6 turnout. So I should be good to go. :)

Here is my parts list. Of course, this would be my preferred layout, but it may be too costly. I'll be checking around for prices. I may, & probably will, only be able to do the outside track at this time & wait until a later date for the inside track. But who knows ... I just may get real frisky & put it on the credit card & be done with it.

In my haste I made a mistake & left out the feeder on the outside track. So, if you kind folks with indulge me I'll post the proper photo & parts list. I'm fine & dandy if anyone cares to recheck my work. People overseeing me is what I need. I'm not too proud to get extra & experienced eyes watching out for me ... watching over me. I prefer it that way. You folks will help me make "fewer" mistakes. Chime in right away should you see something amiss. I don't take any constructive advice poorly. Nay, I welcome it! I'm new at this, I'm a greenhorn, you folks have a lot of experience under your belts.

As I tell people ... go to the people who have the success in what you are seeking. If you wish to become financially successful, go to those who have made themselves financially successful, and seek their advice. If you want to have a good marriage, go to those whom you see with a good marriage and seek their counsel. So, if you want to build a better model rail road, then go to those who have built them, and seek their advice.

Anyway, I'll post the updated photo & parts list.

    I already have:

    20-000 & 20-041

Best as I can figure by checking the prices on the internet, this layout track will cost me approx $142.63 plus shipping. Then there is the cost of the HCD, etc, etc, etc.

    David,

I wasn't trying to put anyone off using the #4, it's just that they are a lot better if modified slightly. ALL the pointwork on my new layout has the #4. If your plan indicates #6, so much the better! Oh, and the only silly question on here is the one you wish you'd asked, but didn't!!!

    Regards,

    Pete

No, I didn't feel you were trying to discourage me from using the #4 turnout. I just wasn't sure how much cutting or hacking would have to be done. I went back & checked the plans and they were #6's so I thought, hey, all the better. :)

Quick question: are you wed to the idea of the double-track loop? And if you are, then that's fine (not looking to insult you or anything of the sort), but if not, with a similar amount of track, you could have some more realistic switching operations possible on the inside with a partial loop, and keep the outside for passenger trains doing the roundy-round. The reason I'm saying this is that with your current layout, operations on those sidings are sort of back 'em in and pull 'em out. Now I do get a sense of "I'm just glad to have a place where trains will actually run and I can see scenery that pleases me" from you, which is also perfectly fine. Just trying to limit the "if only I had thought of this beforehand" thoughts. Regardless, all of this is progress, which is neat. :)

As soon as I can get a couple of folks to tell me the newest posted layout looks okay, I'll go for it. I'm just too unsure of myself yet. I know there are no guarantees even with others checking my work, but I'd rather have a simple goof to correct than a huge one.

I may email the parts list (minus my few pieces I already have) to Tophobbytrains to get a price. I've only done business with them once, but they were pleasant & got my items to me quickly.

You read me well enough. I like the idea that perhaps one day I could have something going around at a pleasant pace on the outside loop while working the inside. I know what little bit I have there isn't much, but I'm trying not to have things too congested. I may sound unlike a true model railroader, but I feel this is as much about the setting as it is the train running.

I feel I need to have the one side empty so I have room enough for the ice pond, & near that a group of folks by an outdoor bonfire. I'd like to also have a sleigh being pulled by a horse. A winter wonderland as it were.

If you're going to send a list for a price quote anyway, I'd recommend sending it over to Mike at Fifer Hobbies, too. As far as being unsure of yourself, is there a reason why? I want to help you make a layout that you'll be able to enjoy for years, not one that you'll regret, or one that'll just sit there collecting dust. And again, if two tracks of roundy-round is your thing, then that's great and it looks like you've got a layout that'll do the trick. Anyway, I'm around and glad to help. :)

You know, you're just aces. I would almost think you're getting as excited for me as I am for me. *chuckles*

There is no way you could be taken wrong. I know what you mean about this loop deal. You are concerned I might have buyers remorse with that, and you know what? it's possible.

If I had more space, this would not be an issue, I could have more options and have a "burger king" road where I could "have it my way". Another thing I've weighed is that it could be nice not just to operate the train, but lean back, relax, and just enjoy the train lazily moving along. I'm trying to use my head as well as my heart. Heck, if I had my druthers I'd be HO.

I'll still give it some thought. Meanwhile, I'll check this out price wise for time being. I'd like to do business with someone who would appreciated the business, and even build a relationship for future purchasing. Considering the finances though the purchasing would likely be sparse at best.

Oh, and have you considered looking on eBay or CraigsList for used unitrack? I see some good deals on the basic oval w/ power pack that might be a good starting point for you. And you could even ask here on TrainBoard if anyone has extra track that they're willing to sell, or even donate? Couldn't hurt! :)

The large image in the sig is a bit obnoxious for a blog that has absolutely zilchall to do with trains or models.

Don't worry about your SIG. There are a few of us that have similar things :) Nice to see people that aren't afraid to show their beliefs! And BTW You're latest track plan seems good to me, I like to just watch things run also.....Mike

    Thank you, Mike C.

It's about trains here for me. I love 'em. I enjoy the people here as well. There was never any intention with my signature to be viewed as "obnoxious". The thought of it being so never entered my mind. I've never spoken to this gentleman before, and I feel it's a shame this tone was used. I don't think I've broken any rules, but if I have please let me know & I will correct it. Meanwhile, I changed the image to a smaller one. I tried making the Olive Chapel image smaller, but it just came out grainy. Just trying to keep the peace & hoping to be accepted here.

    Blessings & best wishes,

    Pastor David J. Kress, Sr.

By the way, on my two spurs you see in the layout, is there a particular bumper, of the Kato Unitrack variety, that I should use for the early 60's era? I see three types ... A, B, & C.

    Thanks :)
