I have a lot of dust, too. Plus every few years, a bunch of soot. My present day "layout" is just T-Trak modules, stored in a closet when not in use. So dust isn't as much of a problem. But my work bench gets really dusty, so I've an adapted bed sheet, which I roll down to cover it. When the sheet needs cleaning, (gets too dusty), I can just toss it in the laundry.

It was nice that you responded so quickly. I sure have missed the interaction on here. I'm here from time to time, but just always lurking. No talent or modeling experience to offer anything for the interaction with others here. I'm concerned about making expensive mistakes, since the cash flow isn't generous, so I have to be terribly thoughtful as I proceed. Now if someone were to ask me about real railroading from a maintenance viewpoint I could talk about attaching bonds to track, repairing downed wire, walking bonds, lighting gas switch heaters, etc, I could chime in with childhood experiences. I wish I would have thought about taking photos on my outings with my father on the railroad in my youth, but at that time the thought never occurred to me. Oh to correct that error!

    You're here. That's good! :)

Too many of us know exactly what you are saying. :( I keep hoping some computer genius will find a way to download memories. Sort of the same way a flash card is used. Then we could fix it with videos of the past, straight from eye cameras.

Ikea also sells a variety of table legs.

You could try this or something similar:

If you're familiar with folding card tables, you can buy those legs separately. When you're getting those, also grab an 8' 2x4 or 2x6 depending on the size of the leg mount bracketry. The lumber gets glued and screwed to the underside of the HCD for increased strength and provides a solid mount for the table legs. Additional height can be gained by sleeving pipe over the leg bottoms, then put some of those floor saver caps over the pipe depending on what kind of floor you have. Don't want scratches in the hardwood, nor do you want the layout to skid away from a slight bump on concrete.

Hope that gets the creative juices flowing

If you have a dust issue, you can make a cover with parachute cloth. You can find widths of 36" and I think 48" on ebay for cheap. I got 5 yds and 36" wide for about $15 and free shipping. I cut it to lenght and glued a dowel to each end just to help keep it from flying away. It is very light weight and easy to remove and replace. I have a St Bernard that sheds hair at an alarming rate (she should be bald) and it keeps the hair and dust on the layout to a minimum.

Hope this helps. Drop a few pics when you get started.

Here's a 48"x30" Kato Unitrack plan I made based on John Allen's Gorre & Daphetid. I actually built this layout but not with Unitrack. I ended up using Atlas Code 55 flex track instead. I offer it merely as another example of what could be done with Unitrack.
