Several weeks ago I spent a couple of hours at Lincoln station. Good to see all the semaphore signals still in use here. View looking east from the footbridge close up of the signal gantry
The unit then enters the bay platform, ready for the return working to Peterborough. Why it does not arrive in the bay is a mystery!
153365 arrives from Newark past the High Street signal box ...after offloading passengers, the unit runs out of the station to cross over to the departure platform ready to return to Newark
A class 158 has just arrived and is awaiting the ok to leave the platform to cross over to the departure platform on the far side of the station then leaves the platform surrounded by semaphore signals!
Nice action series. What time of day were these pix shot? It seems like there were very few people around.
Thanks Pierce. The time was between 2 and 4 pm. The station was actually very busy, but passengers usually arrived just before their train was due, and left immediately upon arrival, so not too many people on the platforms between trains. This young lady looked rather fed up waiting for her train
Nice shots Alan...I remember riding the Intercity 125's from Huntington to London, while I was stationed at RAF Alconbury...I have a few shots from the platforms from both Peterborough and Huntingdon..somewhere in boxes! Keep 'em coming... [ 03. September 2004, 16:07: Message edited by: NSCALEMIKE ]
Alan, what is the purpose of the white backgrounds behind some of the semaphores--to improve crew visibility of the signals?
You got it Jim If the sighting of the signal against a confusing background is difficult, the white background board makes the signal indication easy to see.
Just got myself an S7000, arrived on Saturday. Big jump up from the Canon A40! Nice pics! I've only been through Lincoln once, on a Strathclyde PTE class 101 set. The speedo cable fell off just before Lincoln & couldn't be fixed....the rest of the journey felt rather fast!

Mike, I need to sort a few out from the weekend and get them resized and uploaded to Railimages to post. Alan, not sure, I presume it had just been moved from Glasgow to wherever the local units were based back then (Tyseley?) I have a poor shot of it from Peterborough I'll dig out if I can find it. They did move them around every so often, Scotrail had NSE units working up there at various points in time!
Pics with the new camera uploaded Here, some from the Dart Valley Railway and Totnes. I'm loving the 6x zoom. The A40 is only half that and it makes a BIG difference to some shots.
